Alliance Sociale was a left-wing political coalition in Mauritius. It consisted of the Mauritian Labour Party, Mauritian Party of Xavier-Luc Duval, The Greens, Republican Movement and the Mauritian Militant Socialist Movement. Mauritian Labour Party
The Labour Party (french: Parti Travailliste, PTr) is a centre-left social-democratic political party in Mauritius. It is one of four main Mauritian political parties along, with the Mauritian Militant Movement (MMM), the Militant Socialist Movement (MSM) and the Parti Mauricien Social Démocrate (PMSD). As a member of the Labour Party- MMM alliance, it elected four Members of Parliament in the general election of 2014. The party is led by Navin Ramgoolam. The Parti Mauricien Xavier-Luc Duval (PMXD) () was a Mauritian political party which was created in 1998 but was dissolved in 2009. History Xavier-Luc Duval was the founder and leader of the party. He formed the PMXD soon after his expulsion from the Parti Mauricien Social Démocrate (PMSD) in September 1997. Senior figures of the PMSD (Hervé Duval Sr, Maurice Allet, Germain Comarmond, Clifford Empeigne, Mamade Khodabaccus and Vyolet Mootia) reprimanded Xavier-Luc Duval for repeated acts of indiscipline and for his open criticism of the PMSD's new alliance with its historical rival, the MMM. The Republican Movement () is a political party in Mauritius. History The Mouvement Républicain (MR) party was founded by barrister and politician Rama Valayden on 23 August 1996 after he had distanced himself from the Parti Mauricien Social Démocrate (PMSD). Soon after MR made headlines for protesting against the extensive deforestation on the island of Mauritius and demanded swift action from the government to prevent a worsening of the crisis. Subsequently by October 2009 the main elements of MR had merged with the PMSD. Mauritian Militant Socialist Movement
The Mauritian Militant Socialist Movement (french: Mouvement Militant Socialiste Mauricien) was a political party in Mauritius headed by Madan Dulloo. At the legislative elections of 3 July 2005, the party was part of the Alliance Sociale that won 42 out of 70 seats, where the MMSM won 2 seats by Madan Dulloo in constituency no. 6 and Sutyadeo Moutia in constituency no. 11. Dr Parmanund Brizmohun, who stood in constituency no. 17 for the party was not elected. On March 16, 2008, Dulloo said at a public meeting held by his party that the party was unhappy with Ramgoolam and the government's performance. The Prime Minister, Navinchandra Ramgoolam, responded by revoking Dulloo from his position as Foreign Minister on March 17, 2008. General elections were held in Mauritius on 3 July 2005, with polls counted on 4 July. The ''Alliance Sociale'', a coalition led by the Mauritian Labour Party (PTr) and including the Mauritian Party of Xavier-Luc Duval (PMXD), the Mauritian Social Democrat Party (MSN), '' Les Verts'' (Greens), the Republican Movement, and the Mauritian Militant Socialist Movement (MMSM), won the election with 42 of the 70 seats (38 elected directly, and another 4 nominated under the country's "best loser" system). The PTr leader, Navin Ramgoolam, was subsequently appointed Prime Minister on 5 July, with Rashid Beebeejaun as his deputy. Navin Ramgoolam
Navinchandra Ramgoolam, GCSK, FRCP (born 14 July 1947) is a Mauritian politician who was former Prime Minister of Mauritius from 2005 to 2014 and leader of the Labour Party (Mauritius). He was Leader of the Opposition from 1991 to 1995. He served as Prime Minister for the first time from December 1995 until September 2000, and became Leader of the Opposition again from October 2000 to 4 July 2005. On 5 July 2005, he became prime minister for a second term after his Alliance Sociale won the general elections. He served again as Prime Minister from 2005 to 2014, when he was defeated afterwards.
