Carl Aller
Carl Julius Aller (25 November 1845 - 23 August 1926) was a Danish publisher of the late 19th and early 20th century and founder of Aller Media, the largest publisher of weekly magazines in the Nordic countries and still controlled by the Aller family. Early life and education Carl Aller was born in Copenhagen on 25 November 1845, the son of brewer Christian Hansen Aller (1797–1852) and Juliane Christine Geschel el. Gechel (ca. 1806–72). He apprenticed as a lithographer in C. F. Aamodt's studio. Career In am early age, Aller invented a new photolithographic method of image production. In 1869, he was awarded the Ørsted Grant for his invention. Together with his wife, Laura Aller, he founded Carl Aller's Etablissement in 1873 and in 1874 they began the publication of ''Nordisk Mønster Tidende'' (later Femina). Eleanor Aller
Eleanor Aller (Slatkin) (May 20, 1917 – October 12, 1995) was an American cellist and founding member, with her husband, Felix Slatkin, of the Hollywood String Quartet. Life and career Born in New York City, she was the daughter of cellist Gregory Aller (né Grisha Altschuler), a Jewish emigre from the Russian Empire. Her mother Fannie had studied piano at the Warsaw Conservatory. Eleanor attended Juilliard where she studied with Felix Salmond. Eleanor Aller became principal cellist in the Warner Bros. Studio Orchestra in 1939, in which her brother, pianist Victor Aller, later became orchestra manager and in which their father also played for a time. She was the first woman to hold a principal chair in a Hollywood studio orchestra. The same year she met and married Felix Slatkin. Laura Aller
Laura Christiane Aller née Bierring (1849–1917) was a Danish business woman and a pioneering magazine publisher. She first helped her husband Carl Aller to develop his photolithographic method of image production to establish a magazine containing recipes in 1874. The beautifully illustrated '' Illustreret Familie-Journal'' published from 1877 proved to be a huge success. Laura Aller not only had a flair for business, she understood exactly what people wanted to read. As editor-in-chief, she translated articles from the foreign press and added her own stories and poetry. After colour was added in 1895, sales increased dramatically and production was moved to larger premises on Vigerslev Allé in Valby. Aller Media, now based on Havneholmen in Copenhagen's South Harbour, is still run by the Aller family. Rodney Goddard Aller (October 24, 1916 – March 21, 2005) was an American lawyer, naval officer and masters skier. Victor Aller (March 26, 1905, New York City – May 1977, in the area of Los Angeles, California) was an American pianist. He had a successful career behind the scenes in the film industry, and he taught piano in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, Hollywood, where his students sometimes included actors preparing to depict musicians on screen, such as Dirk Bogarde and Cornel Wilde. His present fame, however, rests primarily on his performances in acclaimed 1950s-vintage Capitol Records recordings with the Hollywood String Quartet, including accounts of piano quintets by Johannes Brahms, César Franck, and Dmitri Shostakovich, and the Brahms piano quartets.
