Allen Bickford
Allen Bickford is an Australian actor of film and TV. He has appeared in classic Australian TV series such as ''Matlock Police'' and ''Homicide (Australian TV series), Homicide'' as well as the British series ''Man at the Top (TV series), Man at the Top''. In 1970, he appeared as Dan Kelly in the film ''Ned Kelly (1970 film), Ned Kelly'' which starred Mick Jagger as Ned Kelly. He appeared as the sinister hitman Collins in the award-winning 1981 film ''The Killing of Angel Street''. His character was loosely based on the Sydney gangster Abe Saffron who was widely believed to be involved in the disappearance of the Sydney heiress and green activist Juanita Nielsen. In 1983 he appeared in the TV film ''Platypus Cove''. In 1986 he appeared in an episode of ''The Flying Doctors''. ''Matlock Police'' is an Australian television police drama series made by Crawford Productions for the 0-10 Network (now known as the 10 Network) between 1971 and 1976. ''Homicide'' was an Australian television police procedural drama series made by production firm Crawford Productions for the Seven Network. It was the television successor to Crawfords' radio series ''D24''. The "Consummate ''Homicide'' cast" includes the four characters that are the best known: Det. Snr. Sgt. ''Ned Kelly'' is a 1970 British-Australian biographical bushranger film. It was the seventh Australian feature film version of the story of 19th-century Australian bushranger Ned Kelly, and is notable for being the first Kelly film to be shot in colour. The film was directed by Tony Richardson, and starred Mick Jagger in the title role. Scottish-born actor Mark McManus played the part of Kelly's friend Joe Byrne. It was a British production, but was filmed entirely in Australia, shot mostly around Braidwood in southern New South Wales, with a largely Australian supporting cast. Edward Kelly (December 1854 – 11 November 1880) was an Australian bushranger, outlaw, gang leader and convicted police-murderer. One of the last bushrangers, he is known for wearing a suit of bulletproof armour during his final shootout with the police. Kelly was born in the then- British colony of Victoria as the third of eight children to Irish parents. His father, a transported convict, died shortly after serving a six-month prison sentence, leaving Kelly, then aged 12, as the eldest male of the household. ''The Killing of Angel Street'' is a 1981 Australian thriller film loosely based on the Builders Labourers Federation (BLF) green bans against development in inner Sydney city waterside suburbs. It briefly touches on the real-life disappearance of Juanita Nielsen, an activist against mass development in Sydney in the late 1970s. The film was directed by Donald Crombie and shot in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. In the commentary on the DVD, the location is incorrectly stated as Edward Street in Balmain (East). Abraham Gilbert Saffron (6 October 1919 – 15 September 2006) was an Australian hotelier, nightclub owner and property developer who was one of the major figures in organised crime in Australia in the latter half of the 20th century. For several decades, members of government, the judiciary and the media made repeated allegations that Saffron was involved in a wide range of criminal activities, including illegal alcohol sales, dealing in stolen goods, illegal gambling, prostitution, drug dealing, bribery and extortion. Juanita Nielsen
Juanita Joan Nielsen (; 22 April 1937 – disappeared 4 July 1975) was an Australian homicide victim, who was a newspaper owner, publisher and journalist, a model, businesswoman, urban conservationist, and heiress. She was notable for her advocacy against the urban development on heritage Victoria Street, Kings Cross, Sydney, where she resided at 202and her support for the Builders Labourers' Federation's Green Bans. Nielsen disappeared from the Carousel nightclub in Kings Cross on 4th July 1975. The person/people responsible for her disappearance have never been identified and her remains have never been found. ''The Flying Doctors'' is an Australian drama TV series produced by Crawford Productions that revolves around the everyday lifesaving efforts of the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia, starring Andrew McFarlane as the newly arrived Dr. Tom Callaghan.
