Allar Jõks
Allar Jõks (born 18 March 1965) is an Estonian lawyer and the former Chancellor of Justice. He was proposed to the office by President Lennart Meri and served between 2001 and 2008. He was proposed again by Toomas Hendrik Ilves in December 2007, but the Riigikogu voted against the appointment. Biography Before the 2016 presidential election, 14 public figures, including Jüri Käo, Mihhail Lotman and Peeter Volkonski, signed a letter in support of Jõks' candidacy. Following the letter, Jõks announced his intention in running for president. Two parties, Pro Patria and Res Publica Union and the Free Party, decided to support his nomination. In the first two rounds of the election, Jõks gained 25 and 21 votes in the Parliament, thus not advancing to the third round. 2016 Estonian Presidential Election
An indirect election took place in Estonia in 2016 to elect the president of Estonia, who is the country's head of state. The Riigikogu — the Parliament of Estonia — elected Kersti Kaljulaid to be the next head of state of Estonia to succeed Toomas Hendrik Ilves, who had served his second and final term as president (as he was term-limited). Kaljulaid is the first female head of state of Estonia. Somewhat unusually, Kaljulaid was elected president only after other candidates could not be elected in three rounds of parliamentary voting and two rounds of voting by an electoral college consisting of members of Parliament and representatives of local governments of Estonia. Mihhail Lotman
Mihhail Lotman (born September 2, 1952 in Leningrad) is an Estonian literature researcher and politician, son of Juri Lotman and Zara Mints. Mihhail Lotman's research fields include general semiotics and semiotics of culture as well as text theory and history of Russian literature. Lotman was a member of the board of Russian Cultural Society in Estonia from 1988 to 1994. Lotman is a professor of semiotics and literary theory at the Tallinn University and also a member of a research group on semiotics at the University of Tartu. Lotman was awarded the Medal of the Order of the White Star on February 2, 2001. Mailis Reps (née Rand, born 13 January 1975) is an Estonian politician, a member of the Estonian Centre Party. She served as the Minister of Education and Research (Estonia), Minister of Education and Research from 2002 to 2003, 2005 to 2007 and 2016 to 2020. Siim Kallas (; born 2 October 1948) is an Estonian politician, former Prime Minister of Estonia, and former European Commissioner. The Estonian Free Party ( et, Eesti Vabaerakond) was an Estonian centre-right political party founded in 2014. The last chairman of the party was Heiki Lill. Pro Patria And Res Publica Union
Isamaa is a Christian-democratic and national-conservative political party in Estonia. It was founded on 4 June 2006 under the name of "Pro Patria and Res Publica Union", by the merger of two conservative parties, Pro Patria Union and Res Publica Party. Up to the 2007 parliamentary elections, the party held 32 seats out of 101 in the Riigikogu and one of Estonia's six seats in the European Parliament. Prince Peeter Volkonski (born 12 September 1954 in Tallinn) is an Estonian rock-musician, composer, actor, and theatre director. Biography He became famous with the punk band Propeller, founded in 1978. In 2015 Volkonski was Free Party's candidate in the Tartu constituency for Estonian parliamentary election. He received 916 votes, which was not enough for a seat in the parliament.
