Alan Wilson (cricketer, Born 1920)
Alan Wilson (24 April 1920 – 6 April 2015) played first-class cricket, first-class cricket for Lancashire County Cricket Club, Lancashire as a tail-end batsman and wicketkeeper between 1948 and 1962. He was born at Newton-le-Willows, Lancashire, England. Wilson played 171 first-class matches for Lancashire over 15 seasons, but was intermittently throughout his career superseded by other wicketkeepers who were generally better batsmen: Alfred Barlow in 1950, Frank Parr (musician), Frank Parr in 1953 and John Jordan (cricketer), John Jordan in 1956. He was finally supplanted by Geoff Clayton in 1959 but returned for a single game in 1962 when he was granted a benefit (sports), benefit to reward his loyalty. Alan Herries Wilson
Sir Alan Herries Wilson (2 July 1906 – 30 September 1995), was a British mathematician and industrialist. He was educated at Wallasey Grammar School and at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, obtaining a BA degree in mathematics in 1926. His graduate work was under the supervision of R. H. Fowler working on problems in quantum mechanics. There is now an Alan Wilson Research Fellowship at Emmanuel College. He studied with Werner Heisenberg on the application of quantum mechanics to electrical conduction in metals and semiconductors. During the period 1931–1932 Wilson formulated a theory explaining how energy bands of electrons can make a material a conductor, a semiconductor, or an insulator. In 1932 he was awarded the Adams Prize; the essay he wrote for this prize became the basis for his book ''The Theory of Metals'' published in 1936. On February 24, 2005, a man shot his ex-wife and son outside the courthouse in Tyler, Texas, then engaged police and court officers in a shootout. David Hernandez Arroyo, Sr. opened fire in front of the courthouse with a Type 56S rifle, killing his ex-wife, and wounding his son. A downtown resident, Mark Alan Wilson, attempted to intervene but was fatally shot. Arroyo was fatally shot by police after a high-speed pursuit. Alan Wilson (Irish Criminal)
Alan Wilson is an Irish criminal who is part of the Kinahan Organised Crime Group. Murder of Marioara Rostas Marioara Rostas was an eighteen-year-old from Romania who disappeared from Dublin city centre on 6 January 2008. She had been begging with one of her brothers at the junction of Pearse Street and Lombard Street. Her brother saw her get into a car and when he went over to it the driver said they were going to McDonald's for food and would return later. She phoned relatives in Romania before she disappeared. She was killed by four shots to her head. Her body was buried in a shallow grave in the Dublin/Wicklow mountains and was not discovered until 2012. Alan Wilson went on trial for her murder in 2014 and pleaded not guilty. The jury found him not guilty. Allan Wilson (1856 – 4 December 1893) was an officer in the Victoria Volunteers. He is best known for his leadership of the Shangani Patrol in the First Matabele War. His death fighting overwhelming odds made him a national hero in Britain and Rhodesia. Early life Wilson was born in Scotland. Upon completion of his apprenticeship at a Fochabers bank, he went to the Cape Colony and joined the Cape Mounted Rifles. Wilson served as a Trooper in the Frontier Armed & Mounted Police during the Xhosa_Wars#Ninth_war_(1877–1879), Gaika-Galeka Campaign from 1877 to 1878 and in the Morosi#Morosi's_Mountain_1879_Campaign, Morosi Campaign of 1879. Doric Wilson (February 24, 1939May 7, 2011) was an American playwright, director, producer, critic and gay rights activist. He was born Alan Doric Wilson in Los Angeles, California, where his family was temporarily located. Allan Charles Wilson FRS AAA&S (18 October 1934 – 21 July 1991) was a professor of biochemistry at the University of California, Berkeley, a pioneer in the use of molecular approaches to understand evolutionary change and reconstruct phylogenies, and a revolutionary contributor to the study of human evolution.
