Clan Grant
Clan Grant is a Highland Scottish clan. History Origins One theory is that the ancestors of the chiefs of Clan Grant came to Scotland with the Normans to England where the name is found soon after the conquest of that country, although some historians have asserted that the Grants were part of the Siol Alpin group of families who descend from Alpin, father of Kenneth MacAlpin, first king of Scots. The oral history of the clan and later recorded in writing for the clan chiefs instead recounts an origin from Norway before coming to the lands in Strathspey with Malcolm III The first Grants to appear in Scotland are recorded in the 13th century when they acquired the lands of Stratherrick. One of the family, possibly a Gregory Grant, married Mary, daughter of Sir John Bisset, and from this marriage came at least two sons. One of these sons was Sir Laurence le Grand who became Sheriff of Inverness. He married the daughter of Alexander Comyn, Earl of Buchan. She was descended from ... Allan Valve Gear
The Stephenson valve gear or Stephenson link or shifting link is a simple design of valve gear that was widely used throughout the world for various kinds of steam engines. It is named after Robert Stephenson but was invented by his employees. Historical background During the 1830s, the most popular valve drive for steam locomotives was known as '' gab motion'' in the United Kingdom and'' V-hook motion'' in the United States. The gab motion incorporated two sets of eccentrics and rods for each cylinder; one eccentric was set to give forward and the other backwards motion to the engine and one or the other could accordingly engage with a pin driving the distribution valve by means of the gabs: - vee-shaped ends to the eccentric rods supposed to catch the rocker driving the valve rod whatever its position. It was a clumsy mechanism, difficult to operate, and only gave fixed valve events. In 1841, two employees of Robert Stephenson and Company, draughtsman William Howe and patt ... Allan (song)
"Allan" is a 1988 song recorded by French singer-songwriter Mylène Farmer from her second album '' Ainsi soit je...''. It was the first single from her first live album '' En Concert'' and was released in December 1989. The lyrics clearly refer to a fairly tale by Edgar Allan Poe as they mentioned one of his characters. Although the single met success in discothèques, its sales remained relatively low in comparison with Farmer's other singles. Background and lyrics The song "Allan" was chosen as the first single from the 1989 concert before the live album '' En Concert'' was released. Unlike Farmer's previous singles, the B-side of the vinyl was not another live song, but the first version of "Psychiatric" (the 'new beat remix'), which appeared two years later on the album " L'Autre...". "Allan" is a tribute to Edgar Allan Poe, an American poet, that Farmer is very appreciative and that she has evoked in many interviews. One verse of the song containing the word "Ligeia" whi ... Donald Everett "Don" Shebib (born 27 January 1938) is a Canadian film director. After '' Heartaches'' (1981), he made fewer films for theatrical release and worked more in television. Shebib is Noah "40" Shebib's father. Early life Shebib was born in Toronto, Ontario, the son of Mary Alice Long, a Newfoundlander of Irish descent, and Moses "Morris" Shebib, born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, in 1910, himself the son of Lebanese immigrants.
