Allan Gilmour (university Administrator)
Allan Gilmour was the 11th President of Wayne State University. He was named Interim President on August 30, 2010, and on January 18, 2011, confirmed President. The son of a Vermont dairy cow dealer, Gilmour graduated from Exeter (where Jay Rockefeller was his roommate), Harvard University and received an MBA from the University of Michigan. He worked for Ford Motor Company in several positions. He retired in 1995 as vice chairman and CFO but returned to the position in 2002, and retired again in 2005, having overseen Finance, the General Auditor's office, Human Resources, Corporate Affairs and Corporate Strategy. An academy (Attic Greek: Ἀκαδήμεια; Koine Greek Ἀκαδημία) is an institution of secondary or tertiary higher learning (and generally also research or honorary membership). The name traces back to Plato's school of philosophy, founded approximately 385 BC at Akademia, a sanctuary of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and skill, north of Athens, Greece. Etymology The word comes from the ''Academy'' in ancient Greece, which derives from the Athenian hero, ''Akademos''. Outside the city walls of Athens, the gymnasium was made famous by Plato as a center of learning. Exeter
Exeter () is a city in Devon, South West England. It is situated on the River Exe, approximately northeast of Plymouth and southwest of Bristol. In Roman Britain, Exeter was established as the base of Legio II Augusta under the personal command of Vespasian. Exeter became a religious centre in the Middle Ages. Exeter Cathedral, founded in the mid 11th century, became Anglican in the 16th-century English Reformation. Exeter became an affluent centre for the wool trade, although by the First World War the city was in decline. After the Second World War, much of the city centre was rebuilt and is now a centre for education, business and tourism in Devon and Cornwall.
