Atique Ahmad
Atique Ahmed (born 10 August 1962) is an Indian politician who is also notable for being an alleged criminal leader and history-sheeter. He was elected as a member of the legislative assembly from the Allahabad west seat for 5 consecutive terms which is a record. From 2004–2009, he was elected as a Samajwadi Party candidate for the 14th Lok Sabha from Phulpur (Lok Sabha Constituency), Phulpur in Uttar Pradesh. Between the years 1999-2003, he was the president of the Apna Dal, founded by Sone Lal Patel. According to his affidavit in the 2014 elections, he has declared that there are now no cases pending against him. The most sensational murder was that of Bahujan Samaj Party, BSP MLA Raju Pal, who had defeated Atique's brother Ashraf in the 2004 Uttar Pradesh state legislature elections. This election saw a voter turnout of 61.11% compared to 59.40% in the previous election. Pooja Pal is an Indian politician from the Samajwadi Party. She is the wife of erstwhile Allahabad West MLA Raju Pal who was gunned down in broad daylight after defeating Mohammad Ashraf in the 2004 elections for the seat. Subsequently, Mohammad Ashraf, who was named as the prime accused in the murder became the MLA. However, in the 2007 Uttar Pradesh state assembly elections, Ashraf was defeated by Pooja Pal. Bahujan Samaj Party
The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is a national level political party in India that was formed to represent Bahujans (literally means "community in majority"), referring to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes (OBC), along with religious minorities. According to Kanshi Ram, when he founded the party in 1984, the Bahujans comprised 85 percent of India's population, but were divided into 6,000 different castes. Raju Pal won the subsequent by-election in November 2004, defeating Atique's younger brother Mohammad Ashraf. However, in January 2005, Raju Pal was shot dead while going to his village for the Republic day parade. Thereafter, Ashraf won the seat by defeating Pal's wife Puja Pal. Ashraf is the prime accused in the murder. Mohammad Ashraf's brother Atique has also been charged with complicity in the murder. Apna Dal (Kamerawadi) is an Indian political party active in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Founded by Dr. Sonelal Patel Founding Apna Dal was founded on 4 November 1995 by Sone Lal Patel. Sonelal Patel had been a close associate of dalit leader Kanshi Ram, and along with Ram, he had been one of the founders of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). However, Kanshi Ram started giving great importance to his young female protégée, Mayawati, to the disappointment of many other party workers who had worked very hard to build the BSP. Mayawati's arrogant attitude was also resented by them. 2002 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election
Elections to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly were held in 2002. Following a spell of 56 days of President’s Rule from 3 March to 2 May 2002, Mayawati became Chief Minister on 3 May 2002 for the third time after the BJP extended support to the BSP. BJP state president Kalraj Mishra resigned, and was replaced by Vinay Katiyar, who thought up slogans like "Haathi nahin Ganesh hai, Brahma Vishnu Mahesh hai" to defend the alliance. But the problems kept mounting, and Mayawati resigned in August 2003. On 29 August Mulayam was sworn in as CM with the support of BSP dissidents and ran the government until 2007. It is said that BJP leaders convinced Vajpayee that Mulayam would help in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections — Mulayam did not, however, help, and while the NDA lost power at the Centre, the SP got 39 Lok Sabha seats, its highest ever.
