All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 1889
The 1889 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the third staging of the All-Ireland hurling championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1887. The championship began on 27 July 1889 and ended on 3 November 1889. Tipperary were the defending champions; however, they were defeated in the provincial series. Dublin won the title following a 5-1 to 1-6 defeat of Clare in the final. Teams A total of ten teams contested the championship, one less than the previous year. It was the first championship to be completed since 1887. The Leinster championship was contested by just four teams; however, due to walkovers and disputes, only one game was played. 1888 championship participants Kildare did not field a team. Nicholas O'Shea
Nicholas O'Shea (25 April 1864 – 1912) was an Irish people, Irish hurling, hurler who played as midfielder for the Dublin GAA, Dublin senior team. O'Shea joined the team during the ill-fated All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 1888, 1888 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 1890, 1890 championship. During that time he won one All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, All-Ireland medal and one Leinster Senior Hurling Championship, Leinster medal. A county is a geographic region within Gaelic games, controlled by a county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and originally based on the 32 counties of Ireland as they were in 1884. While the administrative geography of Ireland has since changed, with several new counties created and the six that make up Northern Ireland superseded by 11 local government districts, the counties in Gaelic games have remained largely unchanged. However, the county as used in Gaelic games does not always and everywhere cover precisely the same territory as the traditional county. Kenmare Shamrocks GAA
Kenmare GAA (Irish: ) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club from Kenmare in County Kerry. The club competes as a joint divisional side with other clubs from the Kenmare area like Templenoe in the underage county championship and as an individual club in senior competitions including the Kerry county senior football championship. The Kerry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), or Kerry GAA, is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland. Ballymun Kickhams (Irish: ''Ciceam Bhaile Munna'' ) is a GAA club in Ballymun, Dublin, Ireland. The club has a clubhouse and its home pitch, ''Pairc Ciceam'', just off the Ballymun (junction 4) exit of the M50. Ballymun also has a full size astroturf pitch. The club derives its name from Charles Joseph Kickham (1828–1882). They last won the Dublin Senior Football Championship in 2020. Blackrock National Hurling Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club located on the southside of Cork City, Ireland. The club was founded in 1883 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. No other Cork-based GAA club has won more Senior County Hurling titles or All-Ireland Club Championships.
