All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship 1999
The 1999 All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship—known as the Bórd na Gaeilge All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship for sponsorship reasons—was the high point of the 1999 season and the first final to be played with 15 players a side. The championship was won by Tipperary who defeated Kilkenny by a single point margin in the final. It was Tipeprary's first success after seven previous final losses. UPMC Nowlan Park (; ) is the principal Gaelic Athletic Association stadium in Kilkenny, Ireland. Named after James Nowlan (the longest serving President of the GAA), the stadium hosts major hurling matches and is home to the Kilkenny hurling team. It opened in 1927 replacing St. James Park. Jovita Delaney
Jovita Delaney (born 1974) is an Irish sportsperson. She played senior camogie with Tipperary and Cashel Camogie Club, winning All-Star awards in 2005 and 2006, a Lynchpin award, predecessor of the All Star awards, in 2003 and All Ireland medals in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2004. Early life Jovita Delaney was born in Boherlahan near Cashel, County Tipperary in 1974. She grew up surrounded by an atmosphere of hurling activity. Her father had played with his local club in his youth and was heavily involved in coaching the local juvenile teams. The family’s association with the game stretches back almost one hundred years as Arthur O'Donnell, a cousin, won All-Ireland medals with Tipperary in 1916 and 1925. Delaney frequently attended games with her family, however, it was not until she attended Scoil Mhuire in Cashel that she first became involved in competitive camogie. Croke Park ( ga, Páirc an Chrócaigh, ) is a Gaelic games stadium in Dublin, Ireland. Named after Archbishop Thomas Croke, it is referred to as Croker by GAA fans and locals. Gael Linn Cup
The Gael Linn Cup is a bi-ennial tournament, representative competition for elite level participants in the women's team field sport of camogie, contested by Ireland's four provincial teams with competitions at senior and junior level on alternate years. The tournament has existed in various guides since 1956, currently the senior tournament is played in even years and the junior tournament in odd years. Deirdre Hughes is a former camogie player selected on the camogie team of the century in 2004, and winner of All Ireland medals in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, and 2004. Background She came to prominence when Toomevara won the Tipperary County Minor championship three years in a row, and won six successive senior county championships. She was a prominent member of the Tipperary team that won the Junior All Ireland in 1991 and captained the Intermediate team to All Ireland success in 1997. She won eight successive Gael Linn Cup inter-provincial medals with Munster. Ann Downey
Ann Downey (born 1957 in Castlecomer, Ireland) is a retired camogie player, winner of 12 All Ireland inter-county medals, captaining the team in 1989 and 1994, and seven All-Ireland club medals with St Paul's and Lisdowney (1) – one more than her sister Angela who was suspended for one final. Family background Her father, Shem Downey won an All-Ireland medal with Kilkenny in 1947, playing in one of the greatest finals in hurling history. Her twin sister Angela was cited in 2004 as the greatest player in the history of camogie. Career She went to school in Castlecomer before joining her sister in St Brigid’s in Callan.
