Aljaž Bedene
Aljaž Bedene (born 18 July 1989) is a Slovenian former professional tennis player. He was a naturalised Briton and played with this nationality from 2015 to 2017, returning to represent Slovenia in 2018. Bedene has won six Futures and 16 Challenger singles titles. In doubles he has won one Challenger title and two Futures titles. His highest ranking is No. 43 in singles (achieved on 19 February 2018) and No. 127 in doubles (achieved on 7 October 2013). Bedene represented Slovenia when he turned pro in 2008. On 31 March 2015, he was granted UK citizenship and represented Great Britain, but the International Tennis Federation has rejected his application to represent Great Britain in the Davis Cup as he had previously played three dead rubbers for Slovenia. Aljaž Cotman (born 26 April 1994) is a Slovenian footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Austrian club SV Donau Klagenfurt. He was a member of the Slovenia youth national selections. Club career Cotman started his career in his hometown club Triglav from Kranj. He joined the youth ranks of English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2010, signing a professional deal in 2012. Aljaž Ivačič (born 29 December 1993) is a Slovenian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Major League Soccer club New England Revolution. Club career Ivačič was signed by Portland Timbers on 18 January 2019. He made his debut for the club in a 6–1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes on 19 September 2020, earning three saves and giving up one goal. On 25 September 2023, Ivačič filed a complaint with the MLS Players Association against the Timbers alleging abusive conduct and tampering. Aljaž Pegan (born 2 June 1974) is a Slovenian gymnast. Pegan is a world and European champion on the horizontal bar, where he has a skill named after him. He also has an eponymous skill on the parallel bars. He has competed internationally since 1988, but has not qualified for any Olympic Games due to IFG rules, which do not allow gymnasts to compete only on individual events. Aljaž Struna (born 4 August 1990) is a Slovenian professional footballer who plays as a defender for Italian club Triestina. He made 21 appearances for the Slovenia national team between 2016 and 2019. Club career Koper Struna began his career in the youth ranks of Slovenian PrvaLiga side Koper. Jakob Aljaž (July 6, 1845 – May 4, 1927) was a Slovene Roman Catholic priest, composer and mountaineer. Aljaž was born in a small Upper Carniolan village of Zavrh pod Šmarno Goro, northeast of Ljubljana, in what was then the Austrian Empire. He was a priest and also a successful composer, singer and choir master. His works are still very popular among Slovenes. He became known for his role fostering the development of mountaineering in the Slovene Lands. By far his most well known construction is the Aljaž Tower ( sl, Aljažev stolp), built on the summit of Mount Triglav, the highest mountain of the Julian Alps and of Slovenia, which he purchased to secure the area for Slovene rather than German mountaineers.
