Aliou Diarra
Aliou Fadiala Diarra (born 31 December 2001) is a Malian professional basketball player for FUS Rabat. Diarra was recruited on outside courts by Stade Malien and was an unknown in professional basketball circles until he gained attention in 2023 for his performance in the Basketball Africa League (BAL). In his rookie season, he was named the BAL Defensive Player of the Year and was named to the All-BAL First Team. Early life After initially playing soccer, Diarra picked up basketball in his village in Bamako. There, he made a name for himself in the local community by playing on open courts and was eventually recruited by coach Kaba Kanté of Stade Malien. The Division Excellence (DEX-H) is the top professional basketball league in Morocco. Founded in 1957, the league currently consists of 16 teams. Rwanda Energy Group BBC, commonly known as REG, is a Rwandan basketball club based in Kigali. It is owned and named after the company Rwanda Energy Group Limited. It plays in the Rwanda Basketball League (RBL), the highest tier of basketball in Rwanda. REG has won the national championship thrice, in 2017, 2021 and 2022. The 2023 FIBA AfroCan was the 2nd edition of the FIBA AfroCan. The tournament was held from 8 July to 16 July 2023 and was be hosted in Angola. DR Congo are the defending champions, having won the 2019 title. The second tournament was supposed to be held in 2021, but was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Morocco won their first AfroCan title after defeating Ivory Coast in the final. Qualification The four highest ranked teams from the AfroCan 2019 were automatically qualified. Eight other teams qualified through the qualification rounds, which are held from February to June 2023. Nigeria received the only wild card for the tournament. 2024 BAL Season
The 2024 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 4, will be the 4th season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season will begin in March 2024 and will finish with the playoffs and finals in the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda, for a fourth consecutive season. The league was expanded to 48 games, including four venues, as South Africa will host the inaugural Kalahari Conference. Al Ahly are the defending champions, having won the previous edition. Venues On 19 June 2023, the BAL and the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) announced they agreed on a multi-year extension to their collaboration. Under the extension, it was agreed that the BK Arena in Kigali will host the playoffs and finals in the 2024, 2026 and 2028 seasons. Forces Armées et Police Basketball (), commonly known as simply FAP or FAP Yaoundé, is a basketball team based in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
