Aline Fruhauf
Aline Fruhauf (1907–1978) was an American caricaturist and painter known for her various mixed-media caricatures of musicians, the Supreme Court justices, and other new age artists such as Stuart Davis, Yasuo Kuniyoshi, Max Weber, and Raphael Soyer, among others. Career Aline Fruhauf's career began early for her as she went from art student to professional caricaturist while still attending Parson's School of Design in New York. Her first caricature appeared in New York World in 1926, her drawings were featured in New York dailies, and she was given a regular column in The Morning Telegraph a year later. She also regularly contributed to the periodical Musical America in 1927. In 1930, she enrolled in The Art Students League of New York, in order to transition from editorial pieces in newspapers to exhibiting and selling her art in galleries, as a result of the fall of the Stock Market and the decline of newspaper sales. Caricature
A caricature is a rendered image showing the features of its subject in a simplified or exaggerated way through sketching, pencil strokes, or other artistic drawings (compare to: cartoon). Caricatures can be either insulting or complimentary, and can serve a political purpose, be drawn solely for entertainment, or for a combination of both. Caricatures of politicians are commonly used in editorial cartoons, while caricatures of movie stars are often found in entertainment magazines. In literature, a ''caricature'' is a distorted representation of a person in a way that exaggeration, exaggerates some characteristics and oversimplifies others. Etymology The term is derived for the Italian ''caricare''—to charge or load.
