Alice Turner Curtis
Alice Turner Curtis (September 6, 1860 – July 10, 1958) was an American writer of juvenile historical fiction. She was probably best remembered by young readers of her day for ''The Little Maid's Historical Series'' (which comprises twenty-four books, starting with ''A Little Maid of Province Town''). She has written at least sixty published books (most of them were originally published by The Penn Publishing Company). Family Alice Turner was born in Sullivan, Maine, the youngest known child of John Vinal Turner (June 6, 1802 – December 31, 1886) and Susan Ann Spear (4 January 1824 – 26/27 May 1901). Her father and another relative (George D. Turner) were sailmakers. Reverend Charles R. Tenney married Alice to Irving Curtis (January 18, 1837 – November 18, 1910) on May 20, 1895, in Boston, Massachusetts, where they both resided at the time. Sullivan, Maine
Sullivan is a town in Hancock County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,219 at the 2020 census. The town was named for Daniel Sullivan, an early settler. Colloquially referred to as "Sully" or "the Sullivans"—like many Maine municipalities composed of villages with geographic designations of the town proper—the municipality was incorporated in 1789. Skowhegan, Maine
Skowhegan () is the county seat of Somerset County, Maine. As of the 2020 census, the town population was 8,620. Every August, Skowhegan hosts the annual Skowhegan State Fair, the oldest continuously-held state fair in the United States. Skowhegan was originally inhabited by the indigenous Abenaki people who named the area Skowhegan, meaning "watching place or fish" and were mostly dispersed by the end of the 4th Anglo-Abenaki War. Sara Ware Bassett
Sara Ware Bassett (1872 – July 18, 1968) was an American author of fiction and nonfiction. Her novels primarily deal with New England characters, and most of them are set in two fictional Cape Cod villages she created, Belleport and Wilton. Her first novel, ''Mrs. Christy's Bridge Party'', was published in 1907. She subsequently wrote more than 40 additional novels, continuing to write and publish into the late 1950s. Many of her novels focus on love stories and humorously eccentric characters. A number of her works are available as free e-books. Two of her novels, ''The Taming of Zenas Henry'' (1915) and ''The Harbor Road'' (1919), were adapted as the motion pictures '' Captain Hurricane'' (1935) and '' Danger Ahead'' (1921).
