Alice Spence
Alice Spence (born 30 June 1991 in Dumfries) is a Scottish curler from Lockerbie. Career Youth Spence began her junior career by winning a gold medal at the 2009 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival, playing lead for the Scottish team, skipped by Anna Sloan. Spence was the alternate on the Scottish team (skipped by Eve Muirhead) at the 2011 World Junior Curling Championships, where the team would win a gold medal, though Spence would not play in any games. Spence played second for Scotland at the 2012 World Junior Curling Championships on a team skipped by Hannah Fleming. The team would go on to win the gold medal. While attending Queen Margaret University, Spencer played lead for Great Britain (skipped by Fleming) at the 2013 Winter Universiade. The team finished in fourth place. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. 2013 Winter Universiade
The 2013 Winter Universiade, the XXVI Winter Universiade, was a winter multi-sport event which took place in Trentino, Italy between 11 and 21 December 2013. This was the first time that a Winter Universiade happened after the Summer Universiade in same the year and in the end of the year and missing two months for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. Originally, it was planned to take place in Maribor, Slovenia in late January and early February, but the Government of Slovenia overturned its decision to partially fund the project due to financial problems in February 2012. 2018 Ford World Women's Curling Championship
The 2018 World Women's Curling Championship (branded as the 2018 Ford World Women's Curling Championship for sponsorship reasons) was held from March 17–25 at the North Bay Memorial Gardens in North Bay, Ontario, Canada. The format of the tournament was changed this year, with 13 teams qualifying for the tournament (as opposed to 12 in previous years), and the top 6 teams from round-robin play will qualify for the playoffs (rather than 4). The playoff system were single-knockout, where the top two teams received a bye while the remaining four played the first round. The event was won by Canada's Jennifer Jones rink from Winnipeg; the second world championship for the 2014 Olympic gold medalists. Off the ice, the event was a success and set an attendance record for a women's world championship held in Canada. The Scottish Women's Curling Championship is the national women's curling championship for Scotland. The championship usually decides which team of curlers is sent to the World Women's Curling Championship, but in Olympic years, the winner must play the British Olympic representative to play to determine the Scottish team at the Worlds. Lorna Vevers (born 31 January 1981, in Dumfries) is a Scottish curler living in Lockerbie. She won a bronze medal at the 2007 World Championships.
