Alice Guillermo
Alice V. Guillermo (6 January 1938 – 29 July 2018) was a Filipino art historian, critic, academic, and author.Galang, R. (1994) CCP Encyclopedia of Art. She received a BA in Education degree (magna cum laude) in 1957 from the College of Holy Ghost. As a scholar of the French government in art history and literature at the University of Aix-Marseille in Aix-en-Provence, she completed the ''Certificat d’Études Littéraires Générales'', the ''Certificat de Séminaire d’Études Supérieures'' (“avec la mention assez bien”) with a study of the French nouveau roman, “La Modification par Michel Butor: Thèmes et Structures”, and the ''Diplôme de Langue et Lettres Françaises'', also with Honours, in 1967. Yan'an Forum
The Yan'an Forum on Literature and Art () was a May 1942 forum held at the city of Yan'an in Communist-controlled China and significant event in the Yan'an Rectification Movement. It is most notable for the speeches given by Mao Zedong, later edited and published as ''Talks at the Yan'an Forum on Literature and Art'' () which dealt with the role of literature and art in the country. The two main points were that (1) all art should reflect the life of the working class and consider them as an audience, and (2) that art should serve politics, and specifically the advancement of socialism. The excesses of the latter point during the Cultural Revolution led to current Party policy rejecting that point, but retaining Mao's encouragement of peasant-focused art and literature. Protest art against the Marcos dictatorship in the Philippines pertains to artists' depictions and critical responses to social and political issues during the presidency of Ferdinand Marcos. Individual artists as well as art groups expressed their opposition to the Marcos regime through various forms of visual art, such as paintings, murals, posters, editorial cartoons, and comics. Many forms of protest art carried themes of social realism, which art historian Alice Guillermo defines as ''art that aims to expose the true conditions of society''. Popular forms of protest art also served as materials used in protest rallies. Ramon Guillermo
Ramon Guillermo is a Filipino novelist, translator, poet, activist, and academic in the field of Southeast Asian Studies. Life and Works Ramon "Bomen" Guillermo was born in 1969 in Manila, Philippines to poet Gelacio Guillermo and art historian Alice Guillermo. A graduate of Philippine Science High School, he received his B.A. and M.A. in Philippine Studies from the University of the Philippines Diliman, and his Ph.D. in Southeast Asian Studies (Austronestik) from University of Hamburg in Germany. Guillermo taught for many years at the UP Department of Filipino and Philippine Literature before transferring to the Center for International Studies at UP Diliman. He also serves as a fellow of the UP Institute for Creative Writing. A long-time activist, in 2018 he was elected for a two-year term as the faculty representative to the Board of Regents of the University of the Philippines, the highest governing body of the university. Gelacio Y. Guillermo Jr. (10 March 1940 – 6 September 2019) was a Filipino poet, critic, translator, essayist, and revolutionary. Life and Works Guillermo was born in Hacienda Luisita, San Miguel, Tarlac on March 10, 1940. He graduated from the University of the Philippines Diliman with an AB English degree in 1964 and taught at the same institution until the imposition of Martial Law in 1972. He also wrote using the ''nomme de guerre'' Kris Montañez. In a tribute to Guillermo, Jose Maria Sison accorded him, "the highest appreciation for his commitment to the revolutionary cause of the people, the quality of his literary works and the entire range of his cultural work, which includes collecting, selecting and publishing the works of other creative writers." Jose Maria Canlas Sison (February 8, 1939 – December 16, 2022), also known by his nickname Joma, was a Filipino writer and activist who founded the Communist Party of the Philippines and added elements of Maoism to its philosophy – which would be known as national democracy. ''Concerned: The Half-Life and Death of Gordon Frohman'' is a webcomic by Christopher C. Livingston that parodies the first-person shooter video game '' Half-Life 2''. The comic is illustrated with screenshots of characters posed using '' Garry's Mod'', a tool which allows manipulation of the Source engine used by ''Half-Life 2''. The comic ran from May 2005 to November 2006 and had 205 issues. While ''Half-Life 2'' follows protagonist Gordon Freeman in a dystopian future, ''Concerned'' follows "Gordon Frohman", a dangerously clumsy character who arrives in the setting of the game a few weeks before Freeman does. The webcomic's dark humor is derived from its contrasts with the game and through references to the game's shortcomings.
