Alice Dovey
Alice Dovey (August 28, 1884 – January 12, 1969)Dovey, Alice, ''Silent Film Necrology'', Eugene Michael Vazzana, McFarland Publishing, 2001, pg. 142. was an American motion picture comedian and actress who first appeared in '' The Commanding Officer'' (1915). This was a Famous Players Lasky movie which was directed by Alan Dwan. The title role in the film was played by Donald Crisp, with Dovey playing the role of his wife. Dovey was a Plattsmouth, Nebraska native who was educated in England with her sister, Ethel, under the care of Miss Lillian Terry. She debuted at the Broadway Theatre on January 25, 1909, after making many appearances in non-metropolitan venues, while acquiring performing skills. Among her first stage appearances was her depiction of Goldenrod in ''Miss Bob White'', during the 1903–1904 theatrical season. Plattsmouth is a city and county seat of Cass County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 6,502 at the 2010 census. History The Lewis and Clark Expedition passed the mouth of the Platte River, just north of what is now Main Street Plattsmouth, on July 21, 1804. Plattsmouth first appeared in 1854 as "the Barracks", a trading post established by Sam Martin, owner of the Platteville ferry in neighboring Mills County, Iowa, ferryman Wheatley Mickelwait, and Glenwood, Iowa attorney and politician Colonel Joseph Longworthy Sharp. McLellan, about an antiques dealer, were adapted from a French farce, ''The Satyr'', by Georges Berr and Marcel Guiltemand The musical premiered at the New Amsterdam Theatre in New York, running for 312 performances from March 13, 1911 to December 9, 1911 and, after a brief London run at the Globe Theatre from April 11, 1912, it returned to the New Amsterdam for a further 24 performances from August 26, 1912 to September 14, 1912. Viola Gillette (1871 - 1956), born Viola Pratt, was an American contralto from Salt Lake City. Biography Gillette began her career as a church singer in Salt Lake City. She made her stage debut in Washington, D.C. in 1898. She subsequently moved to New York City, where she sang with the Castle Square Opera Company. She was a soloist at the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church in New York from 1898 to 1899. Gillette's first concert appearance as a soloist was at the Springfield, Massachusetts Music Festival in 1899. For a few months in early 1901, Gillette appeared at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London. From 1901 to 1904, Gillette was employed by Klaw & Erlanger, appearing for two seasons in their production of ''Beauty and the Beast'' and for one season in ''Mother Goose''. Tarzana is a suburban neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, California. Tarzana is on the site of a former ranch owned by author Edgar Rice Burroughs. It is named after Burroughs' fictional jungle hero, Tarzan. History The area now known as Tarzana was occupied in 1797 by Spanish settlers and missionaries who established the San Fernando Mission. Later absorbed by Mexico, the land was surrendered to the United States in 1848 by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo following the Mexican–American War.
