Ali Mohammad Shahbaz
Ali Mohammad Shahbaz, (born Ali Mohammad Qureshi, 1939 – 1996) known by his pen name Shahbaz, was a Kashmiri-language revolutionary poet, satirist, humanist, philanthropist, calligrapher, and teacher. His literary work revolved around the conflict in Kashmir. Early life Born on 1 May 1939 at his ancestral resident Mawer (Langate), a village in Handwara town of North Kashmir's Kupwara district. He had his primary school education from Islamia Model School, Qalamabad and completed high school at Handwara. He has done masters in the Kashmiri language. Personal life Shahbaz was a teacher by profession and was appointed as the ''Principal of Govt. Higher Secondary School Handwara'' until his death. Handwara
Handwara is a sub-district and a town in Kupwara district of Kashmir. It was known as Uttar Machipora until the division of Baramulla district in the 1980s resulting in the formation of two new districts: Kupwara and Bandipora. It is located on Baramulla-Handwara National Highway NH-701 and is governed by a municipal committee. Geography Handwara is located at at an average elevation of 1,582 metres (5,190 feet) above sea level. Demographics According to the 2011 Indian census, Handwara has a population of 13,600. Males constitute 54.26% of the population and females 45.74%. Handwara has an average literacy rate of 64.39%. The dominant religion in the town is Islam. Noor Mohammad Shah (Kashmiri: نور محمد شاہ, born in 1954) is an Indian traditional Sufi music performer and songwriter, from ''Baki-Aker'' village in Handwara town, in the Kupwara District of North Kashmir. Background Shah is a traditional Sufi music performer and songwriter and a virtuoso of the rabab. When a boy, in 1970, he was noticed for his talent with the idiophone-style Kashmiri percussion instrument of nout (clay pot) by the local singer Mohammad Yousuf Shah who then invited him to his troup for training and work. Kashmiri Muslims
Kashmiri Muslims are ethnic Kashmiris who practice Islam and are native to the Kashmir Valley in Indian-administered Kashmir.
