Manglisi
Manglisi ( ka, მანგლისი, ) is a '' daba'' (townlet) in the Tetritsqaro Municipality, Kvemo Kartli region of Georgia. As of the 2014 census, it had the population of 1,441. With a recorded history going back to the 4th century, Manglisi was one of the earliest centers of Christianity in Georgia and is a home to the medieval cathedral of the Mother of God. It also functions as a mountain spa and health resort. Geography and climate Manglisi is located on the southern slopes of the Trialeti Range, on the Tbilisi-Tsalka highway, west of Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, in the Algeti river valley. It is located at about above sea level and enjoys a subtropical climate, with warm summers (average temperature in July, 19 °C) and mild winters (average temperature in January, −2 °C). Manglisi Cathedral
Manglisi Cathedral or Manglisi Sioni Cathedral ( ka, მანგლისის სიონი) is a 6th-7th-century Georgian Orthodox cathedral near the town of Manglisi, Tetritsqaro Municipality, Georgia. The first church was built in 4th century. The current cathedral was constructed from the 6th to 7th centuries. The cathedral went through a huge restoration in 1002. The temple has rather unique design. It is a tetraconch, rather common for the churches of the 6th-7th centuries, but unusually inserted into an octagon. Later alterations partly mask the original plan. History According to The Georgian Chronicles, Byzantine Emperor Constantine gifted Georgian priests parts of the True Cross. Bishop Ioanne arrived to Manglisi, started construction of a church and left part of wood there. Dashbashi Canyon Natural Monument
Tsalka Canyon ( ka, წალკის კანიონი) is part of Khrami (known as Ktsia at it source ) gorge near Dashbashi village, 3 km from small town of Tsalka, in Tsalka Municipality, in Kvemo Kartli region of southeastern Georgia, Morphology Tsalka Canyon was created by erosion in volcanic plateau. ''Abies nordmanniana'', the Nordmann fir or Caucasian fir, is a fir Indigenous (ecology), indigenous to the mountains south and east of the Black Sea, in Turkey, Georgia (country), Georgia and the Russian Caucasus. Caucasian Spruce
''Picea orientalis'', commonly known as the Oriental spruce or Caucasian spruce, is a species of spruce native to the Caucasus and adjacent northeast Turkey. Description It is a large coniferous evergreen tree growing to 30–45 m tall or 98–145 feet (exceptionally to 57 m), and with a trunk diameter of up to 1.5 m (exceptionally up to 4 m). The Caucasian Spruce can also be found in Northern Iran, though its numbers have decreased due to deforestation. The shoots are buff-brown and moderately pubescent (hairy). Trialeti Range
Trialeti Range ( ka, თრიალეთის ქედი) is an east-west mountain range of the Lesser Caucasus Mountains in the Samtskhe–Javakheti region of southern Georgia. The eastern edge of the Range runs along the western border of Tbilisi, while the western edge lies along River Mtkvari to the southwest of Borjomi. The length of the Trialeti Range is 144 kilometers and the maximum width is 30 kilometers. The mountain range was built up by volcanic activity during the Paleogene period. Young, andesite lava flows are common in the western part of the Range. The highest point is Mount Shaviklde (meaning "black cliff" in Georgian) at an elevation of 2,850 meters above sea level (9,348 ft.). The slopes of the Range are mainly covered by deciduous forests made up of oak, beech, and hornbeam.
