Algeria At The Paralympics
Algeria made its Paralympic Games début at the 1992 Summer Paralympics in Barcelona, sending two competitors in athletics, and a goalball team. The country has taken part in every edition of the Summer Paralympics since then, but has never participated in the Winter Paralympics. Algerians have won a total of 38 medals at the Paralympic Games, of which 15 gold, 7 silver and 16 bronze. Mohamed Allek won Algeria's first two gold medals at the 1996 Games, in the men's 100m and 200m sprints, T36 category. He won three more gold medals, also in sprinting, in 2000. Kamel Kardjena
Kamel Kardjena (born May 26, 1981) is a Paralympic athlete from Algeria. He has cerebral palsy and competes in seated throwing events in the F33 classification. He competed in the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, China, where he won a gold medal in the men's F33-34/52 shot put event. He repeated his performance at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, winning the gold medal in the men's F32-33 shot put event. He is F33 world record holder in shot put. The 1996 Summer Paralympics medal table is a list of National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) ranked by the number of gold medals won by their athletes during the 1996 Summer Paralympics, held in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, from August 16 to August 25, 1996. The 1988 Summer Paralympics () were the first Paralympics in 24 years to take place in the same city as the Olympic Games. They took place in Seoul, South Korea. This was the first time the term "Paralympic" was used officially. The 1984 International Games for the Disabled, canonically the 1984 Summer Paralympics were the seventh Paralympic Games to be held. The 1968 Summer Paralympics ( he, המשחקים הפאראלימפיים בקיץ 1968) were the third Paralympic Games to be held. Organised under the guidance of the International Stoke Mandeville Games Federation (ISMGF), they were known as the 17th International Stoke Mandeville Games at the time. The games were originally planned to be held alongside the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, but in 1966, the Mexican government decided against it due to difficulties. The Israeli government offered to host the games in Tel Aviv, a suggestion that was accepted. The opening ceremony took place in the Hebrew University stadium at the Givat Ram campus in Jerusalem and the games took place in Ramat Gan, Tel Aviv District, at the Israel Sports Center for the Disabled.
