The Anglo-Saxons were a Cultural identity, cultural group who inhabited England in the Early Middle Ages. They traced their origins to settlers who came to Britain from mainland Europe in the 5th century. However, the ethnogenesis of the Anglo-Saxons happened within Britain, and the identity was not merely imported. Anglo-Saxon identity arose from interaction between incoming groups from several Germanic peoples, Germanic tribes, both amongst themselves, and with Celtic Britons, indigenous Britons. Royce Alger
Iowa Hawkeyes Royce Alger (born 1965) is an American wrestler and retired mixed martial artist. A student of wrestling icon Dan Gable, he went on to become a three-time All-American, three-time Big Ten champion, and two-time NCAA National Champion at the 167 and 177 pound weight classes in 1987 and 1988, at the University of Iowa. After going undefeated in his final 78 matches, Alger spent seven years as an assistant wrestling coach with his alma mater. He was also a World silver medalist in freestyle wrestling at the 1990 World Wrestling Championships. Alger later competed in mixed martial arts. In his debut at UFC 13 on May 30, 1997, he lost by armlock to Enson Inoue. He won his next three fights, all of which were in smaller, regional MMA events. Philip Rounseville Alger (September 29, 1859 – February 23, 1912) was an American Naval officer. Biography Philip Rounseville Alger was born in Boston, Massachusetts. His father was the noted Unitarian minister William Rounseville Alger. He entered the U.S. Naval Academy in 1876 and graduated four years later at the head of his class. His first cruise, in Richmond, Virginia, took him to the Pacific station and to China. In 1882, Alger was ordered to the Bureau of Ordnance, Washington, D.C. This assignment exposed him for the first time to the field in which he was to later win marked distinction. Following duty in European waters on board USS ''Pensacola'' from 1885 to 1889, Alger returned to the Bureau of Ordnance. Pat Alger (born September 23, 1947, in LaGrange, GeorgiaCarlin 2003, p. 3.) is a country music songwriter, singer and guitarist and a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame (2010) and the Georgia Music Hall of Fame (2013). Mary Honor Donlon, later Mary Donlon Alger, (August 25, 1893 – March 5, 1977) was a judge of the United States Customs Court. Education and career Donlon was born on August 25, 1893, in Utica, New York, the daughter of Joseph M. Donlon and Mary (Coughlin) Donlon. She graduated from Cornell Law School, receiving a Bachelor of Laws in 1920. While a law student, she was the first female editor-in-chief of the ''Cornell Law Quarterly'', and the first female editor-in-chief of any US law review.
