Alfred Young (mathematician)
Alfred Young, Fellow of the Royal Society, FRS (16 April 1873 – 15 December 1940) was a British mathematician. He was born in Widnes, Lancashire, England, and educated at Monkton Combe School in Somerset and Clare College, Cambridge, graduating BA as 10th Wrangler (University of Cambridge), Wrangler in 1895. He is known for his work in the area of group theory. Both Young diagrams and Young tableaux (which he introduced in 1900) are named after him. Young was appointed to the position of lecturer at Selwyn College, Cambridge, in 1901, transferring to Clare College in 1905. In 1902 he collaborated with John Hilton Grace on the book ''The Algebra of Invariants''. In 1907 he married Edith Clara ''née'' Wilson. In 1908 he became an ordained clergyman, and in 1910 became parish priest at Birdbrook in Essex, a village 25 miles east of Cambridge. Alfred Young (artist)
Alfred Young (born 1936) is an English artist working in California. He is best known for his early contributions to San Francisco's conceptual and environmental art movements of the 1960s and 70s. His works include conceptual and mixed media pieces, as well as paintings and drawings. Biography Alfred Young was born in 1936 in Lambeth, London. After completing a printing apprenticeship at the age of twenty-one, he quit his job to become a student at the London School of Printing (now the London College of Communication). After studying painting intensely for a year, he was allowed to join the Royal College of Art and continue painting as a postgraduate student. While studying at the Royal College, Young became intensely interested in the works of cubist Jacques Villon which featured bright prismatic colors. Sir Alfred Joseph Karney Young (1 August 1864 – 5 January 1942) was a British barrister and judge. He held a number of political and judicial offices, including Attorney General of British East Africa, Chief Justice of the Seychelles, Attorney General of Fiji, Chief Justice of the Leeward Islands, Chief Justice of Fiji, and Chief Judicial Commissioner for the Western Pacific. Alfred Young (4 November 1905 in Sunderland – 30 August 1977) was a professional footballer who played as a defender for Huddersfield Town between 1927 and 1945. He also played for Durham City and York City. He played for England nine times between 1932 and 1938, including the infamous 6–3 win against Germany in Berlin in 1938. Alf Young (footballer, Born 1900)
Alfred Young (27 November 1900 – 31 July 1975) was an English professional association football player of the 1920s. Born in Wingate, County Durham, he played for local clubs Trimdon Grange and Wingate Albion before joining Hartlepools United in 1923. He made over 120 appearances for the club before he was transferred to Gillingham in 1928. He made 18 Football League appearances for the Kent-based club during the 1928–29 season, but left at the end of the season to join Workington. Later in 1929 he joined Lincoln City and made 148 League appearances for the club, taking his total League appearances to 299. Alfred John Young (April 28, 1946-December 11, 2022) is a former World Champion Drag Racer and National Hot Rod Association Hall of Famer who competed in professional Bracket racing, and the heads-up categories from Super Street and Super Gas to Super Comp. He taught high school in Seattle, Washington, for 37 years, and is involved with the preparation of classic high performance race cars. After campaigning his 1970 Dodge Challenger for over 25 years, winning the American Hot Rod Association (AHRA) World Championship and numerous other National Hot Rod Association and AHRA titles, he donated his drag racing car to the Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI) in Seattle, Washington, in 2007. During the majority of his auto racing career, he was sponsored by Ole Bardahl of the Bardahl Company.
