Alfred W. Benson
Alfred Washburn Benson, also known as Albert Washburn Benson (July 15, 1843January 1, 1916) was an American attorney, politician, and jurist who served as a United States senator from Kansas. Early life and education Born in Poland, Chautauqua County, New York, Benon moved to Jamestown, New York, in 1860, and attended Jamestown and Randolph Academies. Career During the Civil War, he enlisted in 1862 as a private in the 154th New York Infantry Regiment, and at the close of the war held a commission as major. He studied law, and was admitted to the bar in Buffalo, New York, in 1866 and commenced practice in Sherman, New York. He moved to Ottawa, Kansas, in 1869, held various local offices, and was a member of the Kansas Senate from 1881 to 1885. Ottawa (pronounced ) is a city in, and the county seat of, Franklin County, Kansas, United States. It is located on both banks of the Marais des Cygnes River near the center of Franklin County. Kansas () is a state in the Midwestern United States. Its capital is Topeka, and its largest city is Wichita. John Marshall (April 11, 1858 – March 25, 1931) was a justice of the Kansas Supreme Court from January 11, 1915, to March 25, 1931. Life and education Marshall was born April 11, 1858, in Logansport, Indiana, the son of Humphrey Marshall and Margaret Marshall (nee Rice). The family then moved to Kansas in 1870, the state John would spend the rest of his life in.
