Alfred Thörne
Sven Alfred Thörne (24 April 1850, Horn - 15 March 1916, Stockholm) was a Swedish landscape painter. Biography His father, Sven Petter Thörne, was a cobbler. From 1874 to 1880, he studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts with Per Daniel Holm. The year he graduated, he was awarded a royal medal for one of his landscapes. The following year, he became an (a type of member candidate) at the Academy. In 1884, he received scholarship that enabled him to make a study trip to Germany, France, Italy and Belgium. He returned to Sweden in 1886 and, in 1891, married Matilda Josefina Wahlberg. He participated in the Nordic Exhibition of 1888, the of 1891, and the World's Columbian Exhibition of 1893. He and Olof Hermelin held a joint exhibition in Stockholm in 1910. A memorial exhibition at the Konstnärshuset took place shortly after his death. Project Runeberg ( sv, Projekt Runeberg) is a digital cultural archive initiative that publishes free electronic versions of books significant to the culture and history of the Nordic countries. Despite their considerable age and relative obsolescence, the public domain editions of the encyclopedia remain important reference works in Finland, especially on Finnish Wikipedia. Nationalmuseum (or National Museum of Fine Arts) is the national gallery of Sweden, located on the peninsula Blasieholmen in central Stockholm. Bergslagen is a historical, cultural, and linguistic region located north of Lake Mälaren in northern Svealand, Sweden, traditionally known as a mining district. In Bergslagen, the mining and metallurgic industries have been important since the Middle Ages although Malmfälten ("the Ore Fields"), the mining district of northernmost Sweden centered at the towns of Kiruna and Malmberget, has been of greater importance during the 20th century.
