Alfred Thomson
Alfred Reginald Thomson (10 December 1894 – 27 October 1979) was an English artist and Olympic Gold Medalist, most notable for being an official War Artist to the Royal Air Force during World War Two. Biography Thomson was born in Bangalore in India where his father George was a British civil servant who had married an Irish woman, Florence Green. Thomson was deaf from birth and when the family returned to Britain from India he attended the Royal School for Deaf Children at Margate Margate is a seaside resort, seaside town on the north coast of Kent in south-east England. Chelsea, London
Chelsea is an affluent area in west London, England, due south-west of Charing Cross by approximately 2.5 miles. It lies on the north bank of the River Thames and for postal purposes is part of the south-western postal area. Chelsea historically formed a manor and parish in the Ossulstone hundred of Middlesex, which became the Metropolitan Borough of Chelsea in 1900. The Science Museum is a major museum on Exhibition Road in South Kensington, London. It was founded in 1857 and is one of the city's major tourist attractions, attracting 3.3 million visitors annually in 2019. Deaf people are typically defined as those who have profound hearing impairment in both ears as a result of either acquired or congenital hearing loss. Such people may be associated with deaf culture. Deafness (little to no hearing) is distinguished from partial hearing loss or damage (such as tinnitus), which is less severe impairment in one or both sides. The definition of deafness varies across countries, cultures, and time, though the World Health Organization classes profound hearing loss as the failure to hear a sound of 90 decibels or louder in a hearing test. In addition to those with profound hearing loss, people without profound hearing loss may also identify as deaf, often where the person was raised within a deaf community and for whom sign language is their first language.
