Alfred Teggin
Alfred Teggin (22 October 1860 – 23 July 1941) was a rugby union footballer, and cricketer of the 1880s. He played representative level rugby union (RU) for England national rugby union team, England, and at club level for Broughton Rangers, as a Rugby union positions#Forwards, forward, e.g. Rugby union positions#Front row, front row, Rugby union positions#Locks, lock, or Rugby union positions#Back row, back row, and county level cricket for Lancashire County Cricket Club. Broughton, Greater Manchester
Broughton is a suburb and district of Salford, City of Salford, Greater Manchester, England, on the east bank of the River Irwell, it is northwest of Manchester and south of Prestwich. Historically in Lancashire, Broughton was a township and chapelry in the parish of Manchester and hundred of Salford. The former manor house, Broughton Hall, belonged to the Chethams and the Stanleys, both distinguished local families, and later passed, by marriage, to the Clowes family. Part of Broughton was amalgamated into the Municipal Borough of Salford in 1844, and the remaining area in 1853. 1886 was the 100th season of cricket in England since the foundation of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). Poor results caused the temporary relegation of both Hampshire and Somerset from first-class status. England beat Australia three-nil in the Test series. Ashes tour The Australians (referred to at the time as the "colonials") toured England for the fifth time and ninth test series in 1886; however their results did not equal those of previous tours. Of a total of thirty-nine games, they won only nine, lost eight and drew twenty-two, which is the second worst record by a touring Australian side after the 1890 team.
