Alfred Percy Allsopp
Alfred Percy Allsopp (26 August 1861 – 22 February 1929) was an English businessman and Conservative Party politician. Allsopp was the sixth and youngest son of Henry Allsopp, 1st Baron Hindlip and Elizabeth Tongue. Several of his brothers were active in politics. He was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Taunton at a by-election in April 1887, in the place of his oldest brother, Samuel, who had succeeded to the peerage on the death of their father. He was re-elected in 1892, and stood down from Parliament at the 1895 general election. Allsopp was appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant of Staffordshire in 1887. He was also a Justice of the Peace (JP) in Worcestershire. He was Mayor of Worcester three times (1892, 1894 and 1909). Samuel Allsopp & Sons was one of the largest breweries operating in Burton upon Trent, England. History Origins Allsopp's origins go back to the 1740s, when Benjamin Wilson, an innkeeper-brewer of Burton, brewed beer for his own premises and sold some to other innkeepers. Over the next 60 years, Wilson and his son and successor, also called Benjamin, cautiously built up the business and became the town's leading brewer. Alfred Cholmeley Earle Welby
Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Alfred Cholmeley Earle Welby (22 August 1849 – 18 May 1937) was a Conservative Party politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Taunton from 1895 until 1906. He had previously served in the British Army, rising to the rank of lieutenant-colonel in 1892. He stood unsuccessfully for the Conservatives in 1885, 1886 and 1892 prior to gaining his seat in Taunton. In 1906 he opted not to stand again in Taunton, but to contest the seat in East Finsbury, but was defeated. He was a London County Councillor from 1907 to 1910, and during the First World War, he was secretary of the Royal Patriotic Fund Corporation.
