Alfred Moses (July 4, 1977 – July 26, 2022) was a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories in the 2011 election. The Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly, or Legislative Council of the Northwest Territories (with Northwest hyphenated as North-West until 1906), is the legislature and the seat of government of Northwest Territories in Canada. It is a unicameral elected body that creates and amends law in the Northwest Territories. Permanently located in Yellowknife since 1993, the assembly was founded in 1870 and became active in 1872 with the first appointments from the Government of Canada. Until 2014, the assembly was officially defined under federal law as "Legislative Council". However, under Northwest Territories territorial law, it was defined as "Legislative Assembly". Fort McPherson, Northwest Territories
Fort McPherson ( Gwich'in: ''Teetł'it Zheh'' , ''at the head of the waters'') is a hamlet located in the Inuvik Region of the Northwest Territories, Canada. It is located on the east bank of the Peel River and is south of Inuvik on the Dempster Highway. The First Nations people who make up the majority are Gwich'in (Teetł'it Gwich'in) and the two principal languages spoken are Gwichʼin and English. Originally the site of a Hudson's Bay Company post the community was named for Murdoch McPherson. Most people have vehicles and regularly make trips to either Inuvik, or Whitehorse, Yukon. History Fort McPherson was the starting point of Francis Joseph Fitzgerald's famous tragic journey of "The Lost Patrol". All four men on the Patrol, including Fitzgerald, were buried at Fort McPherson on 28 March 1911. Inuvik
Inuvik (''place of man'') is the only town in the Inuvik Region, and the third largest community in Canada's Northwest Territories. Located in what is sometimes called the Beaufort Delta Region, it serves as its administrative and service centre and is home to federal, territorial, and Indigenous government offices, along with the regional hospital and airport. Inuvik is located on the northern edge of the boreal forest, just before it begins to transition to tundra, and along the east side of the enormous Mackenzie River delta. The town lies on the border between the Gwich'in Settlement Region and the Inuvialuit Settlement Region. Inuvik Boot Lake is a territorial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories, Canada. Together with Inuvik Twin Lakes, it is one of two electoral districts that represent Inuvik; both were created in 1999 from the previous monolithic Inuvik riding. Geography Inuvik Boot Lake borders Inuvik Twin Lakes to the northwest, west and southwest, bounded by Centennial Street, Reliance Street, Franklin Road, Distributor Street and Water Street. Inuvik Boot Lake is named for Boot Lake in the south of the electoral district. Floyd K. Roland (born November 23, 1961) is a politician from Northwest Territories, Canada. He was the 11th premier of the Northwest Territories, having held office from October 17, 2007 to October 26, 2011. Previously a town councillor and deputy mayor of Inuvik, Roland was first elected to the Legislative Assembly in the 1995 Northwest Territories general election, after defeating the incumbent candidate Fred Koe. He was re-elected in the 1999 Northwest Territories general election, winning in a landslide with 83% of the vote. Roland was returned by acclamation in the 2003 Northwest Territories general election and acclaimed for a second time in the 2007 Northwest Territories general election, following which the members of the Legislature elected him Premier of the Northwest Territories on October 17, 2007. 2011 Northwest Territories General Election
The 2011 Northwest Territories general election was held on October 3, 2011. Nineteen members were returned to the 17th Legislative Assembly from single member districts conducted under first-past-the-post voting system. The territory operates on a consensus government system with no political parties; the premier is subsequently chosen by and from the Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs). Three incumbent MLAs faced no challengers and were acclaimed back into office in their districts. Five new MLAs were elected, although only one defeated an incumbent; all of the other four won in open seats where the incumbent MLA did not run for re-election.
