picture info	Alfred Jacob Miller Alfred Jacob Miller (January 2, 1810 – June 26, 1874) was an American artist best known for his paintings of trappers and Native Americans in the fur trade of the western United States. He also painted numerous portraits and genre paintings in and around Baltimore during the mid-nineteenth century. Life Miller was born in Baltimore, Maryland, the eldest of nine children of George W. and Harriet J. Miller. Miller's father was a merchant and tavern keeper in central Baltimore, and also had a farm in Hawkins Point. Miller attended a private school in Baltimore, John D. Craig's Academy, but did not receive formal art instruction there. He may have received his first lessons in art from Thomas Sully. In 1832, with the financial support of his family and art patrons in Baltimore, Miller traveled to Paris to study art. 	Alf Miller Alfred George Abraham Miller (25 March 1917 – 2 August 1999), also known as Dusty Miller, was an English professional footballer and coach who played as a wing half in the Football League for Southport and Plymouth Argyle. Miller began his career with his hometown club Portsmouth but never appeared for the first-team. He ventured into non-League football before being handed another opportunity in the Football League by Bristol Rovers. Again, he failed to break into the first-team, but a move to Southport saw him make his professional debut in 1937. Two years with Southport amounted to 32 appearances and a move to Plymouth Argyle, but World War II broke out before Miller could make any appearances for the club. Early life Miller was the son of Lieutenant-Colonel James Miller (1829−1909), late 11th Hussars, of Shotover Park, Wheatley, Oxfordshire, JP, DL, High Sheriff of Oxfordshire in 1880, and Sarah Dorothy (d. 1911), daughter of Thomas Moore Evans. The Miller family were, in previous generations, merchants in Scotland, with James Miller's father, Alexander, coming to own Ashford Hall, Middlesex. Military career Miller was commissioned a lieutenant in the 2nd Dragoons (Royal Scots Greys) on 7 February 1885, and promoted to the rank of captain on 28 June 1893.
