Alfred Marshall (congressman)
Alfred Marshall ( – October 2, 1868) was a United States representative from Maine. He was born in New Hampshire about 1797. Marshall married Lydia Brackett on December 21, 1824, and they had three children Isabelle Isaphene Marshall, Jacob Smith Marshall, and John Brackett Marshall. He was elected a member of the Maine House of Representatives in 1827, 1828, 1834, and 1835 and served as a general in the Maine State militia. He was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-seventh Congress (March 4, 1841 – March 3, 1843). After his return to Maine, he became a collector at Belfast from 1846 to 1849. He engaged in mercantile pursuits and the hotel business. Leonard Jarvis
Leonard Jarvis, Jr. (October 19, 1781 – September 18, 1854) was an American businessman and politician who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from Maine. Jarvis was the son of Leonard Jarvis, Sr. and Susan (Scott) Jarvis, he was born in Boston, Massachusetts on October 19, 1781. He attended the common schools, graduated from Harvard in 1800. After his graduation from Harvard, Jarvis moved to France, he lived in France for the next sixteen years. In 1816, he moved to Surry, Maine. On August 15, 1816, he married Mary Hubbard Greene in Boston, Massachusetts, she died in November 1841. In about 1844, he married Anna Howard Spooner, (she died in 1888 or 1889 in California at the age of one hundred and one). He was the sheriff of Hancock County, Maine from 1821 to 1829. Maine House Of Representatives
The Maine House of Representatives is the lower house of the Maine Legislature. The House consists of 151 voting members and three nonvoting members. The voting members represent an equal number of districts across the state and are elected via plurality voting. The nonvoting members represent three of Maine's Native American tribes, though two tribes have declined to send representatives. Each voting member of the House represents around 9,000 citizens of the state. Because it is a part-time position, members of the Maine House of Representatives usually have outside employment as well.
