This is a list of cricketers who have played for Kent County Cricket Club in top-class matches. The county club has its origin in the Kent Club founded at Canterbury on 6 August 1842. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. ''The Cricketer'' is a monthly English cricket magazine providing writing and photography from international, county and club cricket. The magazine was founded in 1921 by Sir Pelham Warner, an ex-England captain turned cricket writer. Warner edited the magazine until 1963. Later editors included E. W. Swanton, Christopher Martin-Jenkins and Simon Hughes. Apart from its coverage of the contemporary game, ''The Cricketer'' has also contributed to the sport's history. Arafat Bhuiyan (born 11 October 1996) is a Bangladeshi cricketer who plays for Kent County Cricket Club as a bowler. Born in Dhaka on 11 October 1996, he moved to England when he was 14 and signed professional terms with Kent in 2023 after graduating from the South Asian Cricket Academy (SACA). Career Arafat Bhuiyan was born at Dhaka in Bangladesh in 1996, but moved to England when he was 14 to play cricket. Starting in 2017, he played for the Second XIs of Surrey, Essex and Derbyshire County Cricket Clubs as well as for Kent. He also played for the Marylebone Cricket Club's Young Cricketers. In the winter of 2022, he enrolled in the South Asian Cricket Academy in Birmingham. Leslie Ethelbert George Ames (3 December 1905 – 27 February 1990) was a wicket-keeper and batsman for the England cricket team and Kent County Cricket Club. In his obituary, ''Wisden'' described him as the greatest wicket-keeper-batsman of all time. He is the only wicket-keeper-batsman to score a hundred first-class centuries. Early career Born in Elham, Kent, in 1905, he was mentored by Francis MacKinnon, an ex-county player who lived in the village and then, after leaving the Harvey Grammar School, Folkestone, by Gerry Weigall, the Kent county coach, who encouraged him to learn to keep wicket so he would have a better chance of playing for the county as an all-rounder. Hartley Leroy Alleyne (born 28 February 1957) is a former Barbadian first-class cricketer: a right-handed batsman and right-arm fast bowler who played for Barbados, Worcestershire, Kent and Natal between 1978–79 and 1989–90. He also played club cricket in the Lancashire League, Huddersfield League and the Birmingham League. Alleyne was born at Derricks, St James in 1957.
