Alfred John Hill
Alfred John Hill (1 January 1862–1 January 1927) was Chief Mechanical Engineer at the Stratford Works of the Great Eastern Railway from 1912 to 1922. His best-known design is probably the GER Class L77 0-6-2 tank locomotive which was perpetuated (as Class N7) by Nigel Gresley of the London and North Eastern Railway after the 1923 Railways Act 1921, grouping. He was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 1918 Birthday Honours. Alfred Hill (cricketer, Born 1865)
Alfred William Hill (29 July 1865 – 27 May 1936) was an English cricketer. Hill was a left-handed batsman who bowled right-arm off break. He was born at Little Rissington, Gloucestershire. Hill made his first-class debut for Gloucestershire against the touring South Africans in 1904. In this match he took his only first-class wicket, that of William Shalders, for the cost of 47 runs from 10 overs. With the bat, he ended Gloucestershire's first-innings unbeaten on 29, while in their second-innings he was dismissed for a single run by Charlie Llewellyn. The following year he played his second and final first-class match for Gloucestershire, against Nottinghamshire in the 1905 County Championship. In this match, he bowled 3 wicket-less overs and wasn't required to bat. He died at Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire, on 27 May 1936. Alfred Hill (politician)
Alfred Hill (1867 – 14 July 1945) was a British Labour Party politician. He sat in the House of Commons from 1922 to 1923 as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Leicester West. At the 1922 general election, he won the Leicester West seat in a 3-way contest, defeating the sitting MP Joseph Frederick Green. Green had been elected in 1918 general election as a National Democratic and Labour Party, but stood in 1922 as National Liberal candidate. Alfred Francis Hill CMG OBE (16 December 186930 October 1960) was an Australian-New Zealand composer, conductor and teacher. Life and work Alfred Hill was born in Melbourne in 1869. His year of birth is shown in many sources as 1870, but this has now been disproven. He spent most of his early life in Wellington. He studied at the Leipzig Conservatory between 1887 and 1891 under Gustav Schreck, Hans Sitt and Oscar Paul. Later he played second violin with the Gewandhaus Orchestra, under guest conductors including Brahms, Grieg, Tchaikovsky, Bruch, and Reinecke. While there, some of his compositions were played with fellow students, and several were published in Germany.
