Alfred Deakin High School is a government secondary school in Deakin, Australian Capital Territory, covering years 7 to 10 in the Territory's education system. It is named after the second Australian Prime Minister, Alfred Deakin. History Two separate schools in the area, Deakin High School in Deakin and Woden Valley High School in Mawson, commenced in 1966 and 1968 respectively. In 1989, the two were amalgamated on the Deakin site and the name Alfred Deakin High School chosen. Since 1989 the school building has undergone considerable refurbishment, including the acquisition of modern kitchens and technology, including information technology and photography areas. During 1991 the school gymnasium was completed and officially opened. Yarralumla, Australian Capital Territory
Yarralumla () is a large inner south suburb of Canberra, the capital city of Australia. Located approximately south-west of the city, Yarralumla extends along the south-west bank of Lake Burley Griffin from Scrivener Dam to Commonwealth Avenue. In 1828, Henry Donnison, a Sydney merchant, was granted a lease on the western side of Stirling Ridge. Donnison's land was named ''Yarralumla'' in a survey of the area conducted in 1834, apparently after the indigenous people's term for the area. It was also spelt ''Yarrolumla'' in other documents. In 1881, the estate was bought by Frederick Campbell, grandson of Robert Campbell who had built a house at nearby Duntroon. John Stead (bishop)
John Stead (born 11 March 1956) is an Australian-English Anglican bishop who served as the Bishop of Willochra from 30 June 2012 to 2 July 2022. Career English born, he grew up in Canberra, attending Deakin High School. He received a Bachelor of Education from the University of Canberra in 1979 and worked as a school teacher. In 1996 he was awarded a Bachelor's degree in Theology from the Sydney College of Divinity and was made a deacon in 1995 and a priest the following year. He was awarded a Master of Ministry from the School of Theology at Charles Sturt University in 2022 with a focus on Pastoral (Professional) Supervision. Stead served as a priest in the Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn and was collated as an Archdeacon and installed as Rector of the Parish of St John's Wagga Wagga in 2004. Sue Geh
Susanna Geh (10 September 1959 – 14 September 1998) was an Australian basketball player. Biography Geh was educated in Canberra at Forrest Primary School, Alfred Deakin High School and Phillip College (1976). After leaving school, she worked at the Department of Defence. Her parents were Karl and Inge and she had an older sister, Gaby. Sporting career Geh's basketball career started in 1969 when her older sister Gaby informed coach Joe Cosgrove that her younger sister was very tall. Geh began playing with the Weston Creek Woden basketball club. In 1980, Geh was awarded a scholarship with the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She was not allowed to fulfill the scholarship after a medical examination showed that she had a slight heart murmur.
