Alfred D. Crimi
Alfred D. Crimi, also known as Alfredo Crimi, (San Fratello, Italy 1900–New York City 1994), was an Italian-American painter. Crimi was born in San Fratello, Sicily, on December 1, 1900. He emigrated to the United States in 1910 and became a US citizen in 1924. He attended the National Academy of Design in New York from 1916 to 1924, and the Beaux-Arts Institute of Design in New York from 1920 to 1921. In 1929, he went to Italy to study fresco and encaustic painting. During World War II, Crimi went to work for Sperry Gyroscope making drawings of weapons and instruments for military training manuals. After the war, Crimi worked as a painter and watercolorist. His style evolved into abstractionism, including his painting "Metropolis", which "uses rectangular and abstract geometrical forms to represent a modern city." Public Works Of Art Project
The Public Works of Art Project (PWAP) was a New Deal program designed to employ artists that operated from 1933 to 1934. The program was headed by Edward Bruce, under the United States Treasury Department with funding from the Civil Works Administration. The PWAP served as way to employ artists, while having competent representatives of the profession display their work in a public setting.''provided by John R. The Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation
The Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation was founded in 1918 by Louis Comfort Tiffany to operate his estate, Laurelton Hall, in Cold Spring Harbor, New York, Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island. It was designed to be a summer retreat for artists and craftspeople. In 1946 the estate closed and the foundation changed its purpose from a retreat to the bestowing of grants to artists. In closing down her father's residence after his death, George Frederick Kunz' daughter, Ruby Zinsser, donated two paintings by Louis C. Tiffany to the Tiffany Foundation. "In 1935, the family of George F. Kunz donated two Tiffany paintings to the picture gallery." The William Jefferson Clinton Federal Building is a complex of several historic buildings located in the Federal Triangle in Washington, D.C., across 12th Street, NW from the Old Post Office Building (Washington, D.C.), Old Post Office. The complex now houses the headquarters of the United States Environmental Protection Agency, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). One component of the complex was originally called the New Post Office, and housed the headquarters of the United States Post Office Department, Post Office Department until that department was replaced by the United States Postal Service in 1971 and which vacated the building. Harlem Hospital Center, branded as NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem, is a 272-bed, public teaching hospital affiliated with Columbia University. It is located at 506 Lenox Avenue in Harlem, Manhattan, New York City and was founded in 1887. The hospital was established to provide healthcare to the citizens of the neighborhood. Initially, the hospital served as a holding area for patients to be transferred to Randalls and Wards Islands and Bellevue Hospital.
