Alf Staver
Alf Staver (20 March 1874 – 1953) was a Norwegian skier, sports official, educator and politician for the Conservative Party. He was born at Staver in Bærum as a son of farmers Christoffer Staver (1843–1929) and Maren Sørine Tanum (1848–1929). He was both a first cousin and brother-in-law of farmer and mayor Olaf Bryn. He finished his secondary education in 1894, finished training as a conscript officer in 1895, took a teacher's examination in 1896 and the Central School of Gymnastics in 1899. From 1898 to 1915 he was a teacher at ''Kristiania borger- og realskole'', and from 1915 to 1944 at Fagerborg School. In the armed forces, he reached the ranks of Premier Lieutenant in 1902 and Captain in 1911. He was a member of Bærum municipal council from 1913 to 1928, serving the last three years as mayor and the years 1922 to 1925 as deputy mayor. Bærum () is a municipality in the Greater Oslo Region in Norway that forms an affluent suburb of Oslo on the west coast of the city. John Torgersen
John Torgersen (13 December 1878 – 21 May 1958) was a Norwegian businessperson and politician. He was born in Kristiania, and moved to Fornebo in 1903. He took commerce school in 1896 and worked in Hamburg and London for several years. After working with pulp export from 1901, he was hired as manager of Lysaker Kemiske Fabrik in 1905, then secretary in Union Co in 1909. He was the manager of Labro Tresliperi from 1913 to 1917, and of Nitroglycerin Compagniet / Norsk Sprængstofindustri from 1914 to 1919. He was a board member of Union Co from 1924 to 1940, Lilleborg Fabrikker from 1930, Kværner Brug from 1931, De-No-Fa from 1945, of the bank Centralbanken for Norge from 1923 to 1935 and of Granfos Brug and the Federation of Norwegian Industries. ''Budstikka'' (The Bidding Stick), prior to 2004 known as ''Asker og Bærum Budstikke'', is a daily local newspaper published out of Billingstad in Asker, Norway. It covers the municipalities of Asker and Bærum, and is the only newspaper issued in the area. History The newspaper was founded in 1898 by book printer Jørgen Chr. Kanitz. Its political alignment was with the Conservative Party. Today it claims an "independent conservative" editorial orientation. It launched its internet edition in 2000, changed to tabloid format in 2002, and changed the name to ''Budstikka'' in 2004.
