Alf Farman
Alfred H. Farman (April 1869 – November 1926.) was an English footballer who played as a forward. Born in Kings Norton, Birmingham, he played for Birmingham Excelsior, Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers before joining Newton Heath in early 1889. He played in three friendlies before the end of the 1888–89 season, scoring a goal in each of them. He was in the Heathens' team that first joined the Football Alliance in the 1889–90 season, and finally made his competitive debut on 9 November 1889 in a 3–0 home win over Long Eaton Rangers, in which he scored a goal. At Newton Heath, which was later renamed Manchester United, he scored 53 goals in 121 appearances, before leaving in June 1895. He played for them in their two seasons in the First Division and for one season after they were relegated to the Second Division. Kings Norton
Kings Norton, alternatively King's Norton, is an area of Birmingham, England. Historically in Worcestershire, it was also a Birmingham City Council ward within the Government of Birmingham, England. The district lies 6.5 miles south-southwest of Birmingham city centre and is within 1.5 miles of the north Worcestershire border. Kings Norton has been split into two wards, Kings Norton North and Kings Norton South. History There was Romano-British occupation near the later town. Excavations at Kings Norton found signs of a small Romano-British settlement, including Roman pottery and a Roman ditch at Parsons Hill, near Icknield Street. Kings Norton derives its origin from the basic Early English ''Nor + tun'', meaning North settlement and belonging to or held by the king, when Kings Norton was the northernmost of the berewicks or outlying manors of Bromsgrove in Worcestershire. Bank Street (football Ground)
Bank Street, also known as Bank Lane,Shury, p.21 was a multi-purpose stadium in Clayton, Manchester, England. It was mostly used for football matches and was the second home ground of Manchester United Football Club (then known as Newton Heath Football Club), after North Road, which they left in 1893. The stadium had a capacity of around 50,000, but the club moved to Old Trafford in 1910 because club owner John Henry Davies believed he could not sufficiently expand the ground. The stadium was in poor repair towards the end of its life and, shortly after the club moved out to Old Trafford, the main stand at Bank Street blew down in a storm.Murphy, p.27 The site is now occupied by the car park of the Manchester Velodrome, with a plaque on a house wall on Bank Street indicating the presence of the former ground.
