Alf Dummett
Alfred Edwin Gay "Rosie" Dummett (8 December 1880 – 1 May 1955) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Collingwood Football Club in the Australian Football League, VFL during the early 1900s. Family The son of Henry Peter James Dummett (1857-1921), and Jessie Adeline Dummett (1856-1928), née Rouse, and known as "Rosie" due to his rosy red cheeks, Alf Dummett was born in Fitzroy, Victoria, Fitzroy on 8 December 1880. He was the brother of Collingwood footballer Charlie Dummett, Charlie Dummett (1891-1976), the brother of Victorian cricketer Arthur Dummett, Arthur Dummett (1900-1968), and the uncle of Richmond footballer Bob Dummett. Fitzroy, Victoria
Fitzroy is an inner-city suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Yarra local government area. Charlie Dummett
Herbert Charles Dummett (9 January 1891 – 4 May 1976) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Henry Peter James Dummett (1857-1921), and Jessie Adeline Dummett (1856-1928), née Rouse, Charlie Dummett was born in Brunswick on 9 January 1891. He was the brother of Collingwood footballer Alf Dummett, and of Victorian cricketer Arthur Dummett (1900-1968). He married Amy Dorothy Bertram (1895-1974) in 1916. Footballer Dummett made three appearances for Collingwood in the 1909 VFL season, as an 18-year-old.AFL Tables. ''The Argus'' was an Australian daily morning newspaper in Melbourne from 2 June 1846 to 19 January 1957, and was considered to be the general Australian newspaper of record for this period. Widely known as a conservative newspaper for most of its history, it adopted a left-leaning approach from 1949. ''The Argus''s main competitor was David Syme's more liberal-minded newspaper, ''The Age''. History The newspaper was originally owned by William Kerr, who was also Melbourne's town clerk from 1851–1856 and had been a journalist at the ''Sydney Gazette'' before moving to Melbourne in 1839 to work on John Pascoe Fawkner's newspaper, the '' Port Phillip Patriot''. Edward Hugh Buggy (9 June 1896 – 18 June 1974) was a leading journalist well known as an Australian rules football writer covering the Victorian Football League (renamed in 1989 Australian Football League). Born at Seymour, Victoria in 1896, Buggy attended school there before moving to Melbourne with his mother after the death of his father. He commenced his journalism career at the ''South Melbourne Record'', and joined the Melbourne ''Argus'' in 1917. He studied for the diploma of journalism at the university in 1921.
