Alexis Shifflett
Alexis Ann Shifflett-Patterson (born May 12, 1996) is an American sitting volleyball player. Early life Shifflett attended Waseca High School where she played softball and volleyball all four years. She was named the captain of her volleyball team her senior year. She was introduced to sitting volleyball at 15 years old, and made her first national team roster at 16 years old. Career Shifflett competed at the World Para Volleyball Championship and won silver medals in 2014 and 2018. She again competed at the World Championship in 2022 and won a bronze medal. She represented the United States at the 2015 Parapan American Games and won a gold medal. She again represented the United States at the 2019 Parapan American Games and won a gold medal. Owatonna, Minnesota
Owatonna () is a city in Steele County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 25,599 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Steele County. Owatonna is home to the Steele County Fairgrounds, which hosts the Steele County Free Fair in August. Interstate 35 and U.S. Highways 14, and 218 are three of the main routes in the city. The 2015 Parapan American Games, officially the V Parapan American Games and commonly known as the Toronto 2015 ParaPan-Am Games, were a major international multi-sport event for athletes with disabilities, celebrated in the tradition of the Parapan American Games as governed by the Americas Paralympic Committee, held from August 7 to 15, 2015 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. USA Volleyball (USAV) is a non-profit organization which is recognized as the national governing body of volleyball in the United States by the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC). Fibular Hemimelia
Fibular hemimelia or longitudinal fibular deficiency is "the congenital absence of the fibula and it is the most common congenital absence of long bone of the extremities." It is the shortening of the fibula at birth, or the complete lack thereof. Fibular hemimelia often causes severe knee instability due to deficiencies of the ligaments. Severe forms of fibula hemimelia can result in a malformed ankle with limited motion and stability. Fusion or absence of two or more toes are also common. In humans, the disorder can be noted by ultrasound in utero to prepare for amputation after birth or complex bone lengthening surgery. The amputation usually takes place at six months with removal of portions of the legs to prepare them for prosthetic use.
