Alexi Ivanov
Aleksi Ivanov Vasilev (Bulgarian: Алекси Иванов Василев), (born Alexe Bădărău; October 22, 1922 – June 9, 1997) was a Bulgarian politician Secretary of (Deputy Chairman) of Standing Committee Bulgarian Agrarian People's Union (BAP) from 1 December 1976 to 2 December 1989, Minister of agriculture and forestry in the government of Georgi Atanasov from March 24, 1986, until December 19, 1988, and Deputy Chairman of Council of Ministers, Chairman of the Council for Agriculture and Forestry Economy – member of the Council of Ministers 1986–1987. After the fall of communism in Bulgaria in 1989 he was removed from all positions he held, in 1993 he was brought to justice and charged with crimes committed during his state positions. Georgi Atanasov (politician)
Georgi Ivanov Atanasov ( bg, Георги Иванов Атанасов; 25 July 1933 – 31 March 2022) was a Bulgarian politician and a leading member of the Bulgarian Communist Party who served as Prime Minister from 1986 to 1990. Atanasov supported the move to oust Todor Zhivkov as Chairman of the State Council, joining Petar Mladenov in leading the opposition. In November 1992, he was sentenced to ten years imprisonment for embezzlement, although he was pardoned in 1994. Atanasov died at 31 March 2022, at the age of 88 in Sofia. Revival Process
The Revival Process or the Process of Rebirth ( bg, Възродителен процес, Vazroditelen protses) refers to a policy of forced assimilation practiced by the People's Republic of Bulgaria, socialist Bulgarian government in the 1980s. The policy involved the ethnic cleansing of Bulgaria's Bulgarian Turks, ethnic Turkish minority, which eventually culminated in the forced expulsion of 360,000 ethnic Turks in 1989. Repressions Bulgaria's about 900,000 ethnic Turks, at that time representing 10% of the country's population, were to Bulgarisation, assimilate by changing their Turkish language, Turkish names, including their deceased ancestors', to "Bulgarian" names. The Bulgarian Communist Party (BCP; bg, Българска Комунистическа Партия (БКП), Balgarska komunisticheska partiya (BKP)) was the founding and ruling party of the People's Republic of Bulgaria from 1946 until 1989, when the country ceased to be a socialist state. The party had dominated the Fatherland Front, a coalition that took power in 1944, late in World War II, after it led a coup against Bulgaria's tsarist regime in conjunction with the Red Army's crossing the border. Petar Tanchev Zhelev ( bg, Петър Танчев Желев) (1920-1992) was a Bulgarian politician, Secretary (Chairman) of the Bulgarian Agrarian People's Union (BAP) from 1974 to 1989, and a deputy in the I (1950-1953), II (1954-1957), III (1958-1961), IV (1962-1965), V (1966-1971), VI (1971-1976), VII ( 1976-1981), VIII (1981-1986) and IX National Assemblies (1986-1990). He was born in 1920 in a village near Haskovo. In 1935, he became a member of the left wing of the Bulgarian Agrarian Youth Union and in between 1940 and 1942, he was arrested for his political activity. In 1944, he graduated in law from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". Following the 1944 coup d'état, the BAP became the central leadership and in 1974, he became the leader of the party.
