Alexey Bugaev
Alexey Sergeyevich Bugaev (russian: Алексей Сергеевич Бугаев, also transliterated Aleksei; born 30 March 1997) is a Russian para-alpine skier who competed at the 2014 Winter Paralympics, winning five medals. He won the International Sports Prize World Athlete of the Year award in 2018. Early life Bugaev was born in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. He was born missing four fingers and the top of his thumb on his right hand. he took up skiing after his parents took him to a ski resort to help him integrate better into society. Career Bugaev competes in the LW6/8 para-alpine skiing classification, for athletes with an impairment in one arm, using two skis and a single ski pole. At the 2013 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships held in La Molina, Spain, he broke his arm whilst finishing 5th in the slalom. The Giuseppe Sciacca International Awards Sports Prize () are sports athlete of the year awards. They are named in honor of Giuseppe Sciacca, an Italian architecture student that died in a parachuting accident in 1986. The Sports Prize awards are a part of the Giuseppe Sciacca International Awards, which also include awards for several other fields of endeavor. The awards are given to athletes that have been deemed to have made an enormous positive contribution in the field of sports. Matthias Lanzinger
Matthias Lanzinger (born 9 December 1980) is an Austrian retired alpine skier from Abtenau, Salzburg. In 2000 he was the Junior World Champion, and took the overall Europa Cup title in 2004. He finished third in the Super-G World Cup at Beaver Creek on 1 December 2005. This was his only podium in the World Cup. Following his accident and leg amputation, he became a Paralympian. Leg amputation after fall On Sunday 2 March 2008, during a World Cup Super-G run at Kvitfjell in Norway, Lanzinger crashed into a gate, tumbling down the steep slope. A contributing factor to the severity of the injury was the fact that the release mechanism on one of his ski bindings did not trigger immediately. La Molina (ski Resort)
La Molina is a ski resort in the Pyrenees mountains of northeastern Spain, in the municipality of Alp in the ''comarca'' of Cerdanya in Girona, Catalonia. Together with Masella, it forms the Alp 2500 resort. It is the site of the first ski lift in Spain, opened on 28 February 1943, and Spain's first ski school, which opened a year later. It is served by a RENFE / Rodalies train station. Para-alpine Skiing Classification
Para-alpine skiing classification is the classification system for para-alpine skiing designed to ensure fair competition between alpine skiers with different types of disabilities. The classifications are grouped into three general disability types: standing, blind and sitting. Classification governance is handled by International Paralympic Committee Alpine Skiing. Prior to that, several sport governing bodies dealt with classification including the International Sports Organization for the Disabled (ISOD), International Stoke Mandeville Games Federation (ISMWSF), International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) and Cerebral Palsy International Sports and Recreation Association (CP-ISRA).
