Alexandrit-class Minesweeper
The Alexandrit class, Russian designation Project 12700 ''Aleksandrit'' (for the mineral alexandrite), is the newest class of Russian minesweepers designed by Almaz and being built by the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard for the Russian Navy. The first ship was laid down on 22 September 2011 and was launched in June 2014. Anywhere between 30 and 50+ ships have been described as envisaged. History The lead ship of the class, ''Aleksandr Obukhov'', was laid down on 22 September 2011 during a keel-laying ceremony at the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard in Saint Petersburg. Originally, the ship was planned to be launched in 2012 and commissioned in 2015, but the deadlines were postponed several times due to the international sanctions imposed against Russia and due to French refusal to deliver necessary equipment for completion of the vessel, namely the mine search system. Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard
The Middle Neva Shipbuilding Plant (russian: Средне-Невский судостроительный завод, Sredne-Nevskiy sudostroitelnyy zavod) was founded before the end of the 19th century in Saint Petersburg, Russia. In 1917 it employed 17,000 people. Vladimir Korolyov
Vladimir Ivanovich Korolyov (russian: Влади́мир Ива́нович Королёв; born 1 February 1955) is a Russian Admiral. He is the former commander in chief of the Russian Navy. Biography Korolyov graduated from the Frunze Higher Naval School in 1977. He attended the senior special officer program at the N. G. Kuznetsov Naval Academy in 1987. Korolyov served in submarines initially as navigating officer on the ''K467'' (1977–81) and then as deputy commander of ''K495'' (1981–84), commander of ''K-488'' submarine (1987–88), commander of ''K-387'' submarine (1988–93) and deputy commander of the 24th submarine division (December 1993 – April 1996). He worked at the anti-submarine division of the Northern Fleet (1996–2000) and was base commander at Gadzhievo naval base in 2002. Russian Far East
The Russian Far East (russian: Дальний Восток России, r=Dal'niy Vostok Rossii, p=ˈdalʲnʲɪj vɐˈstok rɐˈsʲiɪ) is a region in Northeast Asia. It is the easternmost part of Russia and the Asian continent; and is administered as part of the Far Eastern Federal District, which is located between Lake Baikal in eastern Siberia and the Pacific Ocean. Unmanned Surface Vehicle
Unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), also known as unmanned surface vessels, autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs) in some cases, uncrewed surface vessels (USVs), or colloquially drone ships, or robot boats, are boats or ships that operate on the surface of the water without a crew. USVs operate with various levels of autonomy, from remote control to fully autonomous. Some commercial USVs may utilize COLREGs-compliant navigation.
