Alexandria, Romania
Alexandria () is the capital city of the Teleorman County, Muntenia, Romania. It is located south-west of Bucharest, towards the Bulgarian border, and has over 45,000 inhabitants. The 44th parallel north passes just north of the city. Geography Alexandria is situated in the middle of the Wallachian Plain, on the banks of the Vedea River. It is located in the central part of Teleorman County, at a distance of from Giurgiu and from Bucharest. The city is traversed by the national road DN6, which links Bucharest to the Banat region in western Romania; the road is part of European route E70. The Alexandria train station serves the CFR Line 909, with service towards Roșiorii de Vede (to the northwest) and Zimnicea (to the south, on the Danube). Teleorman County () is a county ( județ) of Romania on the border with Bulgaria, in the historical region Muntenia, with its capital city at Alexandria. The name ''Teleorman'' is of Cumanic ( Turkic) origin. It literally means ''crazy forest'' (Deli orman) and, by extension, "thick and shadowy forest" in the Cuman language. It can be encountered in other toponyms, such as the Turkish name of the Ludogorie Plateau in northeastern Bulgaria. Valentin Vasile Badea (born 23 October 1982 in Alexandria) is a Romanian former football player. He played as a striker. His last contract was with Liga II team UTA Arad. Club career *On 2001 Jiul bought Badea for €1,000 from Rulmentul Alexandria. *Prior to 2006, when Badea joined Steaua București, he also played for Rulmentul Alexandria, Jiul Petroşani and FC Vaslui. *He was discovered by Ioan Sdrobiş while he was playing for Rulmentul Alexandria in Romania's third division and where Badea was the team's top goalscorer. The Diocese of Alexandria and Teleorman ( ro, Episcopia Alexandriei și Teleormanului) is a diocese of the Romanian Orthodox Church.
