Alexandre Girardet
Alexandre Girardet (22 May 1767, Le Locle - 15 June 1836, Neuchâtel) was a Swiss engraver, illustrator and watercolorist. Life and work He was born to Samuel Girardet (1730–1807), a bookseller and publisher, and his wife Marie-Anne, née Bourquin. His siblings, Abraham, Charles Samuel Charles Samuel (29 December 1862, in Brussels – 3 February 1938 or 1939, in Cannes) was a Belgian sculptor, engraver and medalist. Le Locle (; german: Luggli) is a Communes of Switzerland, municipality in the Canton of Neuchâtel in Switzerland. It is situated in the Jura Mountains, a few kilometers from the city of La Chaux-de-Fonds. Abraham Girardet (30 November 1764, Le Locle - 2 January 1823, Paris) was a Swiss engraver and illustrator. Biography He was the eldest son of the publisher and bookseller, Samuel Girardet (1730-1807). In 1783, he moved to Paris, where he took lessons in drawing and printmaking from Bénédict Alphonse Nicollet (1743-1807), a fellow Swiss immigrant. His siblings, Abraham Louis Girardet, Abraham Louis, Alexandre Girardet, Alexandre, Charles Samuel Girardet, Charles Samuel, and Julie (1769-1817) also worked as engravers. He remained in Paris during the early stages of the French Revolution, Revolution, creating depictions of major events. Charles Samuel Girardet (24 November 1780, Le Locle - 16 January 1863, Versailles) was a Swiss engraver and lithographer, who spent much of his life in Paris. Life and work He was born to Samuel Girardet (1730–1807), a bookseller and publisher, and his wife, Marie-Anne, née Bourquin. His siblings, Abraham, Abraham Louis, Alexandre and Julie (1769–1817), also became engravers. He and his brothers studied engraving together. In 1805, he went to Paris to join Abraham, who helped provide the financial assistance he needed to complete his training and get started. Abraham Louis Girardet (27 May 1772, Le Locle - 31 October 1821, Les Planchettes) was a Swiss etcher, engraver and Portrait miniature, miniaturist. Life and work He was born to Samuel Girardet (1730–1807), a bookseller and publisher, and his wife Marie-Anne, née Bourquin. His siblings, Abraham Girardet, Abraham, Charles Samuel Girardet, Charles Samuel, Alexandre Girardet, Alexandre and Julie (1769-1817), also became engravers. He studied painting and graphic design together with his brothers. His works were signed as "Ab-Ls G." or "A.L.G.", to distinguish him from the elder Abraham.
