Alexandra Gunn
Alexandra Claire Gunn is a New Zealand academic, and is a full professor at the University of Otago, specialising in Inclusion (education), inclusive education, teacher education and educational assessment. Academic career Gunn worked as an early childhood educator in both urban and rural not-for-profit childcare. Gunn completed a Master of Arts thesis ''Visual art education in early childhood centres : teachers' beliefs and practices'' at the University of Canterbury and a PhD titled ''Heteronormativity and early childhood education: Social justice and some puzzling queries'' at the University of Waikato. Gunn then joined the faculty of the University of Canterbury, before moving to the University of Otago in 2011. She was promoted to associate professor in 2018 and full professor in 2022. New Zealand Association For Research In Education
New Zealand Association for Research in Education (NZARE) was established in December 1979 and its membership consists of individuals and organisations with an interest in educational research. The current president is Professor Colin Gibbs, Head of the School of Education at Auckland University of Technology. National/international organisation NZARE has established formal international links with the British Educational Research Association, American Educational Research Association, the Canadian Society for the Study of Education and Australian Educational Research Association. Jean Herbison
Dame Jean Marjory Herbison (29 April 1923 – 20 May 2007) was a New Zealand academic, educator, researcher and Chancellor of the University of Canterbury. She was the first woman to hold the post of chancellor at a New Zealand university. Biography Herbison was born in Dunedin in 1923, and attended Southland Girls' High School. She earned a BA from the University of Canterbury, a Diploma of Teaching from Auckland Teachers College, and an MA from the University of Northern Iowa. She was an Associate of the University of London Institute of Education. She has held a Fulbright Scholarship and an Imperial Relations Trust Fellowship. She taught at Avonside Girls' High School from 1952 to 1959, and in 1960 became Dean of Christchurch Teachers' College. From 1968 to 1974 she was Vice-Principal of the Teachers College and in 1975 became associate director of Christchurch Polytechnic, a position she held until her retirement in 1984. Inclusion in education refers to all students being able to access and gain equal opportunities to education and learning. It arose in the context of special education with an individualized education program or 504 plan, and is built on the notion that it is more effective for students with special needs to have the said mixed experience for them to be more successful in social interactions leading to further success in life. The philosophy behind the implementation of the inclusion model does not prioritize, but still provides for the utilization of special classrooms and special schools for the education of students with disabilities. Jocelyn "Joce" Grace Nuttall is a New Zealand education academic, and is a full professor at the University of Canterbury, specialising in teacher education, early childhood curriculum policy and workforce capacity-building.
