Alexandra Athletic Football Club was a 19th-century football club from Dennistoun, in Glasgow, which participated in the early years of the Scottish Cup. History The football club was founded in 1873 as an all-round athletics club, with football as the "ruling pastime"; originally, the club's request to use part of Alexandra Park, Glasgow, Alexandra Park as a home ground was declined, despite the club being "a body of working men...who had done a very gracious thing in asking permission to get the use of a portion of the park". Within two months however the new club was given permission to lease part of the park for sporting activities; by this time the George Boyle, 6th Earl of Glasgow, Earl of Glasgow and Robert Dalglish, Robert Dalglish MP had agreed to become the club's patrons and the club had an elite image, with amongst the best sporting facilities and equipment in Glasgow. Alexandra Park, Glasgow
Alexandra Park is a public park in the East End of Glasgow, Scotland. It is located in Dennistoun, east of the city centre. Named after Princess Alexandra of Denmark, it opened in 1870. The highest point of the park gives views north to Ben Lomond and south to the Tinto Hills. The park is generally open from dawn to dusk daily, but the facilities inside the park have separate opening and closing times accordingly. James McIntyre (born c.1860 – died 1943) was a Scottish footballer, who played for Rangers and Scotland. He played at half back. Glasgow born McIntyre, known as 'Tuck', was the younger brother of Hugh, another Scotland international. He began with Glasgow sides St Andrews and Alexandra Athletic before joining Rangers in 1883. He remained with the club for the rest of his playing career, and was in the team which shared the first Scottish Football League championship of 1890-91. James Gossland (born 6 September 1860 in Glasgow) was a Scottish footballer who played for Dennistoun, Alexandra Athletic, Rangers and the Scotland national team.
