Alexander Zaytsev (artist)
Alexander Dmitrievich Zaytsev (russian: Александр Дмитриевич Зайцев) (June 3, 1903, Blagoveshchensk, Russian Empire – May 12, 1982, Leningrad) was a Russian and Soviet painter and art educator, who lived and worked in Leningrad. He was a member of the Leningrad Union of Artists, and professor of painting of the Repin Institute of Arts, who played an important role in the formation of the Leningrad school of painting. Biography Alexander Dmitrievich Zaytsev was born on June 3, 1903, in Blagoveshchensk city on Amur River. In 1920-1924 he studied in Blagoveshchensk School of Industrial Art. In 1924 he comes to Leningrad and enters the VHUTEIN, where he studied with Osip Braz and Vasily Savinsky. The title Hero of the Soviet Union (russian: Герой Советского Союза, translit=Geroy Sovietskogo Soyuza) was the highest distinction in the Soviet Union, awarded together with the Order of Lenin personally or collectively for heroic feats in service to the Soviet state and society. Overview The award was established on 16 April 1934, by the Central Executive Committee of the Soviet Union. The first recipients of the title originally received only the Order of Lenin, the highest Soviet award, along with a certificate (грамота, ''gramota'') describing the heroic deed from the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Because the Order of Lenin could be awarded for deeds not qualifying for the title of hero, and to distinguish heroes from other Order of Lenin holders, the Gold Star medal was introduced on 1 August 1939. Alexander Zaitsev (pair Skater)
Alexander Gennadyevich Zaitsev (russian: Александр Геннадьевич Зайцев, born 16 June 1952 in Leningrad) is a retired pair skater who represented the Soviet Union. With partner Irina Rodnina, he is a two-time (1976, 1980) Olympic champion, six-time World champion and seven-time European champion. They were coached by Stanislav Zhuk and later Tatiana Tarasova in Moscow. From 1973 to 1980 they won every event they entered and are, to date, the most decorated pair team of all time. Career In April 1972, Zaitsev was recommended by Stanislav Zhuk to Irina Rodnina as a potential partner. She was already a four-time World champion and 1972 Olympic gold medalist with her previous partner Alexei Ulanov, who had left her to skate with Lyudmila Smirnova. Aleksandr Leonidovich Zaitsev (russian: Александр Леонидович Зайцев; 19 May 1945 – 29 November 2021) was a Russian and Soviet radio engineer and astronomer from Fryazino. He worked on radar astronomy devices, near-Earth asteroid radar research, and SETI. Education Zaitsev received his M.Sc. degree in radio engineering from the Moscow Mining University in 1967 and his Ph.D. (1981) and his postdoctoral lecture qualification (1997) in radar astronomy from the Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics, Russian Academy of Science in Moscow. He was a member of the Space Guard Foundation, the SETI League, and The European Radio Astronomy Club (E.R.A.C.). Career Zaitsev was the chief scientist at the Russian Academy of Science's Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics. Aleksander Mikhaylovich Zaytsev (russian: Алекса́ндр Миха́йлович За́йцев), also spelled as Saytzeff and Saytzev (2 July 1841 – 1 September 1910), was a Russian chemist. Alexander Nikolayevich Zaitsev (June 15, 1935 – October 31, 1971) was a leading Soviet chess grandmaster. He was born in Vladivostok, Russia. Perhaps his finest achievement was a share of first place at the 1968 USSR Chess Championship in Alma Ata. He eventually took the silver medal after losing the play-off to co-winner Lev Polugaevsky. The Chessmetrics website, which provides estimated ratings and rankings for players, places him as 21st in the world in 1969. Zaitsev had been born with a clubfoot. In 1971, he had an operation to correct the problem. Details are hard to come by, but Zaitsev died of complications from the surgery.
