Alexander Young (bishop)
Alexander Young (died 1684) was a Scottish bishop. Life Young was born in Aberdeen, in the year 1629. He became a minister in the Scottish Church, but his training is unclear. At this time King Charles was imposing bishops upon the Scottish Church, which the majority opposed. These were troubled times in the Scottish Church which eventually resulted in the Scottish Episcopalians Act of 1711 effectively splitting the church. In 1664 he was translated as minister of Dalmeny to minister of Cramond Kirk. In 1666 he moved to the Archdeaconry of St Andrews.Fasti Ecclesiastae Scoticana by Hew Scott In the winter of 1671, he became Bishop of Edinburgh, a position he held until his translation to be Bishop of Ross in 1679. Alexander Young (engineer)
Alexander Young (December 14, 1833July 2, 1910) was a mechanical engineer and politician in the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi. He began as an apprentice for Alexander Chaplin & Co. in Glasgow, and then Anderson & Co. in London. He married Ruth Pearce in early 1860 and traveled to Vancouver Island on August 26, 1860, to construct a sawmill. The two (with one child) traveled to Hawaii in February 1865. They had nine surviving children. Young had operated a small foundry and machine shop in Hilo, Hawaii, with William Lidgate, and business expanded with the growth of Hawaii's sugar plantations. He moved to Honolulu around 1869 and bought the Honolulu Iron Works from Thomas Hughes, who had revived the business after a devastating fire in 1860. In 1875 Theophilus Harris Davies refinanced the Honolulu Iron Works and hired Young as manager. The two then organized the Waiakea Mill Company. Around 1900 he formed the von Hamm-Young Company. Alexander Young (28 December 1938 – 4 August 1997), better known as George Alexander, was a Scottish singer, songwriter, saxophonist, bassist, guitarist and session musician. He was an elder brother of George Young, the rhythm guitarist and founding member of the Easybeats, as well as Malcolm and Angus Young, founding members of the Australian hard rock band AC/DC, and the younger brother of Stephen Young, the father of Stevie Young, who is also a member of AC/DC. Background William Young (born 16 February 1911) and his family lived at 6 Skerryvore Road in the Cranhill district of Glasgow in Scotland. William worked first as a wheel boy in a rope works and then as a machine / saw operator in an asbestos / cement business. Sir James Alexander Young (23 March 1875 – 17 April 1956), known as Alexander Young, was a New Zealand politician of the Reform Party. Biography Young was born in Auckland in 1875 to Irish immigrant parents from County Sligo. He was by profession a dentist. He was elected to the Hamilton Borough Council at the young age of 22. He was Mayor of Hamilton from 1909 to 1912. He then represented the Waikato electorate from 1911 to 1922, and then the Hamilton electorate from 1922 to 1935, when he was defeated. Alexander Young, VC (27 January 1873 – 19 October 1916) was an Irish-born South African soldier and a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. A native of Oranmore, County Galway, Young joined the Queen's Bays on 22 May 1890 at Renmore. He served for a time in India, and became a riding instructor. He first saw active service in the Mahdist War, Second Boer War, and First World War. Alexander MacGillivray Young
Alexander MacGillivray Young (July 30, 1878 – July 9, 1939) was a Canadian physician and politician. He was elected to the House of Commons of Canada as a Member of the Liberal Party for the riding of Saskatoon in 1925 and re-elected in 1926 and defeated in 1930. He was re-elected in 1935 to the riding of Saskatoon City and served as MP until his death. Born in Millsville, Nova Scotia, Young was elected councillor for Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1913 and elected mayor of Saskatoon in 1916 and 1920. During the 16th Parliament of Canada, 1st Session, he was the Chairperson of the Select Standing Committee on Railways, Canals and Telegraph Lines. He is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery. Alexander Bell Filson Young (1876–1938) was a journalist, who published the first book about the sinking of the ''RMS Titanic'', called ''Titanic'', in 1912 only 37 days after the sinking. He was also an essayist, war correspondent in the Boer War and World War I, a programmes advisor to the BBC, and the author of two novels. Alexander Simpson Young (23 June 1880 – 17 September 1959) was a Scottish professional footballer who played for St Mirren, Falkirk, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, South Liverpool and represented Scotland at international level. Football career He is the all-time fourth highest scorer for English club Everton and scored the only goal to win the 1906 FA Cup Final. Some attribute to him a total of 110 league goals for Everton, which would put him in second spot behind Dixie Dean. He was also the Football League's top scorer in 1906–07. In 1911 he moved South to London and joined Tottenham Hotspur. Young scored on his ''Lilywhites'' debut in a 2-2 draw against his old club Everton at Goodison Park in September 1911 in the old First Division. Alexander Young (3 February 1937 – 27 February 2017) was a Scottish international footballer. He played as a creative forward for Heart of Midlothian and Everton. He won league championship and cup titles with both clubs where he was also a regular goal scorer. Young later played for Glentoran and Stockport County. Internationally he played for the Scottish League and the Scotland national football team. In football folklore he has become known as 'The Golden Vision'.
