Alexander Sukhanov
Alexander Alekseevich Sukhanov (russian: Алекса́ндр Алексе́евич Суха́нов, 25 May 1952) is a Soviet and Russian poet, composer, bard and mathematician who created more than two hundred songs. Biography Alexander Sukhanov was born on 25 May 1952 in Saratov, Russia, USSR. During childhood he studied music, graduating from music school as a violin major. In 1974 Sukhanov earned an undergraduate degree (with honors) from the Mechanics and Mathematics Department of Moscow State University. He later earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the same institution. He taught mathematics at Gagarin Air Force Academy; since 1981 he has worked at the computational methods laboratory at MSU. In 1969 Sukhanov began writing music to his own lyrics, as well as to the poetry of Samuil Marshak, Iosif Utkin, Percy Shelley, Alexander Vertinsky, Alexander Pushkin, Nikolai Rubtsov, and others. Nikolay Rubtsov
Nikolay Mikhaylovich Rubtsov (russian: link=no, Николай Михайлович Рубцов; 3 January 1936, Yemetsk, Northern Krai19 January 1971, Vologda) was a Russian poet. Rubtsov was killed on the night of 19 January 1971, at the age of 35, in his apartment, the result of a domestic dispute with an aspiring poet Lyudmyla Derbina. The judicial investigation established that the death was violent, occurred as a result of suffocationmechanical asphyxia from squeezing the neck with her hands. The term bard ( rus, бард, p=bart) came to be used in the Soviet Union in the early 1960s, and continues to be used in Russia today, to refer to singer-songwriters who wrote songs outside the Soviet establishment, similarly to folk singers of the American folk music revival. Because in bard music songwriters perform their own songs, the genre is also commonly referred to as author song (russian: авторская песня, ''avtorskaya pesnya'') or bard song (russian: бардовская песня, ''bardovskaya pesnya''). Echo of Moscow (russian: links=no, Эхо Москвы, translit=Ekho Moskvy) was a 24/7 commercial Russian radio station based in Moscow. It broadcast in many Russian cities, some of the former Soviet republics (through partnerships with local radio stations), and via the Internet. From 1996 its editor-in-chief was Alexei Venediktov. On 1 March 2022, it was taken off the air by Roskomnadzor as a result of its coverage of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. On 3 March, the Board of Directors voted to close the station down.
