Lieutenant-Colonel Alexander Kenneth Stewart (30 August 1852 – 13 February 1945) was a Scotland international rugby union player who represented Scotland from 1873 to 1875. Rugby Union career Amateur career Stewart played for Edinburgh University. Provincial career Stewart represented Edinburgh District against Glasgow District in the world's third provincial match, the 'inter-city', on 6 December 1873. Stewart next played for the District on 24 January 1874. International career Stewart's international debut was the home match against England, in the fixture at The Oval on 23 February 1874. Stewart's last match for Scotland, again against England, was the fixture at The Oval on 6 March 1876. 1873–74 Scottish Districts Season
The 1873–74 Scottish Districts season is a record of all the rugby union matches for Scotland's district teams. It includes the Inter-City fixtures between Glasgow District and Edinburgh District. History The matches here remain 20 - a - side. These matches, with more players on the park, made it harder to score. In addition, scoring a try did not count for points. The try gave you an attempt to get a score by means of the conversion; if the conversion was missed then it did not benefit the try scoring team. It was only goals that mattered. Poona Horse
The Poona Horse is an armoured regiment in the Armoured Corps of the Indian Army. The regiment, known before independence as The Poona Horse (17th Queen Victoria's Own Cavalry), was raised as a regular cavalry regiment in the Bombay Presidency army of the East India Company. It was formed from the 3rd Regiment of Bombay Light Cavalry, raised in 1820, and the Poona Auxiliary Horse, raised about 1817–18. The latter unit was absorbed into the regular forces about 1860 and the two regiments later became the 33rd Queen Victoria's Own Light Cavalry and the 34th Prince Albert Victor's Own Poona Horse. These were amalgamated in 1921 into the present regiment, the battle honours of which tell of service in three Afghan wars, in Persia, Abyssinia and China, as well as in the Great War. Glasgow District (rugby Union)
Glasgow District was a Scottish amateur rugby union team which now plays as the professional provincial side Glasgow Warriors. Founded in 1872 it was a select provincial amateur rugby union team that drew its players mainly from the Greater Glasgow area, as well as others from the rest of the west of Scotland; roughly corresponding to the old Strathclyde regional council area. Historically the Glasgow District team played matches against touring teams visiting Scotland from abroad, and also competed in the Scottish Inter-District Championship.
