Alexander Speirs (Maine Politician)
Alexander Speirs (1859-October 9, 1927) was an American politician from Maine. A Republican, Speirs represented Cumberland County in the Maine Senate from 1923 to his death in 1927. He also served in the Maine House of Representatives in 1917. While in office, Speirs promoted education and opposed raising the gas tax. Personal Speirs was born in Scotland and immigrated to the United States in 1860 at the age of one. Having grown up in Portland, Speirs settled in Westbrook, Maine, where he spent the final 31 years of his life. Speirs died suddenly on October 9, 1927, at St. Barnabas Hospital in Woodfords and was interred at Woodlawn Cemetery in Westbrook. Maine () is a state in the New England and Northeastern regions of the United States. Arthur Spear (6 February 1883 – 12 December 1946) was an English professional association football player in the years prior to the First World War. He made over 130 appearances in The Football League. Career Born in Bristol, Spear featured prominently in Bristol City's successes in the first decade of the 20th century under Manager Harry Thickett. He played for local clubs in Bristol before in July 1904 he moved to Bristol City in the Second Division. He made his league debut in 1–0 win at Glossop on 27 December 1904, making 12 appearances at half back deputising for Peter Chambers and Billy Jones in 1904–05 for the "Robins" who finished fourth in the Second Division. The Maine Legislature had one year terms until 1880, when an amendment to the Maine Constitution took effect to provide for two year terms. Joseph A. The Maine Republican Party is an affiliate of the United States Republican Party in Maine. It was founded in Strong, Maine, on August 7, 1854.
